Ok here is my story (sorry if its long),

I am 18 yrs old. I am in college my seccond year. I have no money problems, (a steady job, and a few side jobs). But here is my dalema. I drive a Camaro. Everyone here in texas drives a camaro. I am a car buff and I love the car, yet I want a different car that will actually get some looks. I have really been looking around and i think an nsx would be great for me. I can buy a cheap one if i sell my 2 cars. Its the summer and i will be working more so i can put that into one too. I have seen some with 100+k miles for as low as 20. I think thats a good deal, but i would have to fly out to see the car and then have it trucked or drive it home. I have heard that the nsx is the best car for maintenence, they won some awards on quality. My big question is this "Should I buy an NSX".

-should i wait because of the new one (will that decrease the price of the older ones?)
-should i jump on it and get one as soon as i can?

--what should i do?

Thanks for the help,
--Mike

Go for it.

Ditto, but make sure you really can afford it. Check on the insurance (you probably be surprised how low it is). Make sure an budget for the scheduled services, because they are quite pricey and the biggy, make sure you budget for tires of course. The only thing is being paranoid of leaving it in a college parking lot. However, I think it would be worth it purely for the intangible benifits it will bring your social life. As much as I like the car, I wouldn't get it if your going to keep it on campus. There are just too many people out there that get jealous seeing a nice car and will probably key it.

I've seen cars keyed from headlight to tail light on both sides here at MD. The car wasn't even exotic, just clean and shiny.

The maintenance is pretty cheap on this car. Insurance will be expensive just because of your age but much less than say a Camaro, Mustang or BMW M3.

Well I think i am going to do it. The quote really helps me decide, I could die tommorow. Also everyone makes mistakes, if it turnes out to be too much for me (a mistake) then i can always try to fix it.

-What about tires Do they tend to go quickly (or are u mentioning lighting them up)?
-I do alot of my own service work. Oil changes, brakes, cluch, etc.. My dad is a car collector and he has a full time mechanic, he can always help.

Thanks again,
-Mike

I'm sure someone could point to the exact link in the FAQ, but if you look you will find several discussions about tire wear. Yes OEM tires wear VERY quickly. Like about 6k-7k miles only from the rear tires. You can go with the later alignment specs and get much better tire wear. Also, you can go with a different tire (I like kumhos good bang for the buck IMO) that wear a little better, but even then don't expect more than 15k miles out of a set of rears. Also, invest in a car cover if you plan on parking it outside, might discourage drunk vandals somewhat. Good luck, hope you find a bargin.

Corrosive,
I would drive the car home. I would not trust some of these trucking companies. Take a day or two off to drive it back. Buy a one way plane ticket. If you don't like the car, buy a one way back. You won't regret it. That's what I did and it was two of the best days of driving ever!

I'd get the car, but arrange for some secure parking first.

Wow I really like the responces. I would drive the car home, but I am not sure how it will handle. Plus 1000 miles in a (new) car that i am not insured on kinda shounds risky, fun but risky.

This is such a great message board, I joined up last night and everyone is so friendly. (just had to mention that)

Well I really will try to get one. I love the car and really really want one. Proabably within the next month or so I will end up getting one and u guys will hear all about it. Thanks alot guys, (possibly girls).

Corrosive,

Buy an NSX, if you want an NSX. If you really want one, and can afford one (nomatter what year, mileage, or price) then go ahead and get it. While there is nothing wrong at all with asking the people on this forum if you should get one, that should really be a question, and answer, that you can find in yourself.

Being in college doesnt necessarily make the possibility of vandalism any greater, it can really depend on the kind of person you are in school and if you make enemies easily. Whether you're in college, or have a regular 40hr/wk job without being in school, theres always going to be the risk of some disrespectful person passing by your car and deciding for whatever childish reason, that he/she is going to vandalize your price possession. So if you want it, get it. I'm going to get one, and one of my jobs can get me many enemies.

I recently made a trip to Key West to unwind for a while. I walked out of a bar on to the street and there was a G-Benz parked right in the middle of all the action. There was a huge piece of masking tape stuck on the door. Printed on the tape in huge black marker was, "ALREADY BEEN KEYED". Upon closer examination I confirmed this to be true.
