Shortening the shift lever

SOS has a shorter shift lever replacement for the NSX. Just wondering though, if anyone here has removed their shift lever and shortened it by cutting the tip of the lever itself. Seems like the threads on the oem lever run deep enough to cut off about half-an-inch or so.

I know someone with a machine shop that would be able to do this job cleanly for me. Anyone thought of this?

Mine is shortened - I actually have three elements contributing accumulatively!

1) Lever itself 'cut n shut' (i.e. cut, section removed & re-welded) - you want to cut at the base as opposed to the tip because of the taper on the shaft at the top - it will be too 'fat' if you cut out of the top section (or the same problem if as suggested above, to just remove the top & re-thread)
2) short throwshift adapter from SOS
3) The SOS Rapid shift knob - note - this makes the lever effectively shorter by itself because it goes deeper into the knob

Dude does your hand even move anymore when you shift? Or do you just think yourself into the next gear?

Okay, I'm glad I asked. Didn't realize the threads tapered wide towards the bottom.

I just installed the short shift kit that SOS has. I'm very happy with the shorter throws. Looks like I'm gonna get my lever replaced now.

Thanks for the heads up and pics:smile:
