Shipping my NSX...how can I disable the security?

Hi guys,

I recently found out that I will be moving to Hawaii! Of course I have to take my baby with me. I will be shipping my car with Matson shipping and I was wondering if there was an easy way to disable the security on my car while still having it locked. This is due their rules and also due to my attempt to preserve the battery for the 3-5 week voyage.

Any other tips for shipping my car? P.S. the paint job is not so great, so I'm not too worried about the elements.

Thanks,

Nick

unplug the hood switch - the alarm cannot be armed if the hood is 'open'

I tried that and it didn't work. It seemed if the switch was unplugged the system assumed the hood was closed - it still armed when I locked the doors. So what I did is left the switch connected, but unscrewed it from its mount so when the hood is closed the switch is still open. That did the trick. Now the alarm never arms no matter what.

Thanks for clarifying - I didn't have time to check the schematic and couldn't remember off the top of my head whether it was N/O or N/C on the switch, so that's why I left the two options to try - misadjust (or unscrew as you did) or disconnect (didn't mean to imply they were same result).
You could also just jumper out the pins in the plug if disconnected.

I just had mine shipped through Matson. No worries as they never lock your car... honestly. If they do, just send the keyless remote with the car and they'll be smart enough to handle the situation.

Where you headed in Hawaii? :)

Aloha Brah, I shipped my NSX through Matson last year to the Big Island, no problem with the alarm since they don't lock the cars. My battery must have gone down since the battery terminal cap was moved when I inspected the car upon arrival (4 weeks later), it must have been jumped or charged. When I picked the car up in Hilo it started right up. Only one very tiny scratch near the door handle (possibly someone wearing a ring) and a couple of oxidation spots on a rim (salt water drops?).

There's about 7 NSX's here according to the local Honda dealer, I've only seen one and it was not in very good shape. From what I've heard there's a turbo charged NSX running around in Hilo, but not confirmed.

Which island are you going? If it's Oahu, check with ktt or some other NSX'ers, I believe there are restrictions on modifications (called Recon). Cars/mods must be inspected and the inspection forms (once passed) must be carried in the car.

Aloha,

George
