What is required to remove and replace the oil seals for the shift lever and select lever. I have a leakage in these two areas. I have the repair manual but it shows the pictures with the trans out of the car. Is this a remove the plastic gray cover, remove the two levers, extract the oil seals and replace??? Thank you.

No, this is tranmission removal, and disassembly. You cannot remove the shift levers without disassembling the transmission case halves. Then taking the internal shift system apart. This is not a small job......

Larry: So those seals I see when I look up into the area where I removed the gray cover can only be replaced by removing the trans. A little too much for me to do in my garage --- the cost for this job dealer versus an independent shop?

I would say $2K- 3k depending on where. A pic would be good to see. I have never seen shift fork seals leaking. They are inside the gray cover.

maybe the leak is from higher up?
sometimes leaks from the spool valves trickle their way down and "collect" or pool at the lowest parts of the transmission and white plastic case (front spool valve anyways). If you have brown oil there, instead of red, its probab from the block rather than the tranny I would think...

A picture is worth a thousands words.
