As the title suggests, should there (do we want there to) be an exception to the official policy of no politics on Prime? Obviously, as most discussions have been that I've seen, the discourse should be level headed and intelligent, as opposed to inflammatory and insulting. Respectful is the key word.

So, do you think Lud should consider making an exception to the rules, just this year?

Why now? We all know why -- this is probably the most important Presidential election in at least a century for the U.S.

Up to Lud, of course.

Ski, I can always count on your for the best polls! At least they are trending in the right direction, of course, unless your next one will be something about the political correctness of suicide!

Politics should be allowed, as long as it's respsectful, and the thread doesn't need to shut down just b/c someone makes a jack-ass comment, that user shoudl just be taken asided and flogged

Prime generally has a good rep of having thoughtful, intelligent members. Most of us do care about politics and personal philosophy because it impacts our life.. I love to broaden my perspective and learn from people of supporting and opposing views and I think we should continue to allow it.

This assertion kind of makes me wonder if you've ever actually seen a political discussion on the internet.

Not true. I have them all the time. I do my best to be respectful and I think I am though even when/if someone does throw a monkey wrench in the discussion.

We can all be respectful, some just choose not to.

I belong to a forum where reasoned and civil political discussions take place, but at the expense of very heavy moderation.

Unless someone is willing to actively moderate, I'd say no.

No politics in an election year? LOL... good luck. i can just see people putting "Vote Republician" in their signatures to 'bend' the rule.

btw, VOTE DEMOCRAT. :D

(for serious people: you realize i'm australian and have no valid opinion in us politics. )

Sure you do, since you gave the world Heath Ledger you can't stop there with your contribution. You gotta give more

Oh sure, ban political talk now after eight years of having to listen to the left-wingers whine and blame everything under the sun on the current administration. If a liberal wins the White House, I can start blaming President Obama/Hillary and the Democrat congress for every little thing that goes wrong starting on January 20, 2009!!! HAHA! Payback sucks!
