So I've ordered outer tie rod end boots since mine are shot. Can they be seperated like standard tie rods or do I stand a chance of breaking them like the rear ball joints since they are also aluminum. I have the standard tie rod flange type tool. Thank's for any help.

um..... I do this on Honda with cast metal parts... since our car has aluminum parts, probably not a good idea.

This old Japanese mechanic who does not speak a lick of English showed it to a buddy of mine and he showed me.

he takes a hammer and hit the lower control arm right where the tie rod goes in and the vibration brakes free the crud and junk. The old guy gets it with 1 hit usually. Gota respect experience.

also you can use a press if you dont intend to reuse the ball joint.

happy wrenching!

Rob:smile:

ps, if your still stuck, give me a call tomorrow and i'll work something out for ya!

I have removed t-rod ends using the hammer trick, witha a variation. Use two hammers. One held to the outer side and hit the opposite side with the second hammer.
Works for Cast Iron. I don't know about aluminum.

My father. A Mechanic for 50 years taught me this. I have never seen it fail.
