So a friend calls and complains about notchy shifting and shaky brakes. I read in the owners manual which stats the clutch is self adjusting as is the brakes. If someone could shine with his/her wisdom on this..

I drove his car the following day and felt zero notchy shifting however his clutch does have chatter, I am assuming its dusty being original clutch with 60k miles and all his fluids are murky. The car sat for a while I am assuming one of his calipers might be frozen which causes the shaky feeling. The rotors seemed flat and the pads thick.

Is it possible the clutch might be slowly on its way out or the fluid needs replacing and slave/master cylinder? BTW the car at idle and off shifts like butter no fluids in floor. I think hes over analyzing and just needs to replace the fluids. What you guys think did I offer the right advice?

:)

What year nsx?

If the clutch is original at 60k then its likely warn out but that would not cause notchy shifting. A good flush and leak check on the clutch master and slave cylinder may help or least find a problem.

If the car has sat then there can be rust/hard spots on the rotors which will cause the pulsation. That may go away on its own or the rotors may need to be turned or replaced.

Brian His NSX is a 91. He thinks the occasional symptons of notchy shifting is a result of a worn clutch which indicates the clutch is not releasing and giving him notchy shifting or hard to pull outa gear etc but I think he should inspect and replace the clutch slave/master cylinder first. I drove his car at high revs and I did not find it notchy at all but oddly he says at low revs bellow 2500 it is more hesitant to downshift sounds like the problem is intermitent. The brakes I think your right he might want them turned.
