Seibon hood question?

Vegas....Baby!
Just purchased a CF Seibon hood. I'm going to have it painted the same as my NSX, (R-77) I found a guy whom I have seen his work and they use the very latest computer matching paint equipment. I'm going to trail fit before painting with stock latches, etc. Also I plan on not having the underside painted but left with the CF look, (will have it clearcoat shot however.) Also having the clear slow dry formula for rock chip protection.

Questions:
1-Should I have the vents left black, (CF?)
2-Any other problems painting CF besides the usual prep for a smooth finish

Thanks in advance!

I did something similar with my old S2000's Mugen hood. Only the inside of the vent was left CF and the entire thing was cleared/sanded/buffed. Results were great - very nice effect, only saw the CF when looking directly at the vents.

Re: Painting the Seibon hood question?

Definitely leave the vents black. It gives it a more finished look. The S2000 picture looks great. Hopefully your's will come out as well. One final thing about computer matching of paints. That's a good starting point. The final color has to be matched by the painter visually in the sunlight. If they don't do this, it will be pure luck that the paint matches the rest of the car. Good luck and hopefully all will turn out great.

Update/Seibon review

*This review is for anyone considering a CF hood. My opinion only.

Got the Seibon hood today. The initial fit is very good. The CF is also remarkably good. I decided to have my nose painted and it's at the shop being done as I type. Should be ready in a few days.

I plan on having the CF hood painted as soon as I get my nose back, (yes, they are mixing up enough paint for the hood.)

Seibon review:

Good:
1-fit. Very impressed with the lines so far. expecting the same as soon as nose is reinstalled.

2-CF weave. Very good 9 out of ten.

3-soild feel. It has a very soild "feel." Opening and closing is like OEM.

4-No wave effect. Some CF pieces this big can have a very slight wave, this one does not.

Not so good:

1-Vents. I knew these were not working before I bought the hood, cosmetic only. *I plan on removing the underside plates that cover these and then they will be functional.

2-material of mesh. Kinda home depot style mesh. I plan on removing them anyway, (*see above) If you want the are removable and paintable, or get some mesh you like and replace, recommended.

Overall I am pleasently suprised by the quality of this hood. I passed on the VIS hood having heard many horror stories, etc. Chris @ SOS sells a similar hood like the Seibon but I don't know the make. Looks like a canidate regardless

I should have the complete NSX done in about a week. I'll post more info as I go.
