security alarm question

Yesterday, I stupidly reached through my open window to unlock my doors and, of course, the alarm went off. I wound up disconnecting the battery to shut it off until I could figure out what to do. I eventually realized that unlocking the doors from the outside would disable the alarm. Since then, the little red security alarm light, located one the driver's side door panel, does not come on.
Is there something I need to do to re-enable the security system? Is there a fuse or relay to check for this system ? I'm assuming that the system is not enabled as long as the light doesn't blink (?)

Good one----now, back to the problem.

Tonight, I tried to set off the alarm and only the lights flashed--with no horn honking. I then noticed that my horn doesn't work at all. I'm assuming that the relay must have gotten damaged and maybe this also prohibits the security system from arming??? The only horn relay I'm aware of is in the rectangular relay box under the front hood. According to the manual, it's the second one from the right in the rear line of relays and is brown in color. As a test, I switched this relay with the other brown one right next to it and the horn still didn't work.

So--is there another relay or fuse somwhere for the horns? If so, where is it located. Also, how do I test the relay ? Finally, is this a part that i need to get from a dealer or would a place like NAPA carry it?

Brian--right now the horn is totally gone ( I mean even when hitting the horn button) and and the security system light is out. When I attempt to set off the alarm, the lights pop up and blink as they should, but there is no horn.

I should note that when the alarm eventually stopped , there was aloud clicking sound comig from one of the relay boxes under the hood. Do you think that the horn relay was damaged? Also, if the horn relay was damaged, would this keep the security system light from going on?

Unpon further perusing of the manual, in 2 different diagrams, it points to 2 different relays as being the horn relay. Both are in sub box A under the hood. I tried switching out these relays with other ones and the horn would not honk either way.

Are there any other relays or fuses related to the horn in the car that I might be able to check? Any suggestions are welcome.

Try unlocking and locking it from the passengerside, its weird that after unlocking it and locking it from the driverside it didnt reset it. sorry i wasnt much help

I've tried locking/unlocking both doors--no change. The issue is no horn since the alarm went off. Now, the only part of the alarm that works is the headlights--they work exactly as they should when the alarm is triggered, but no horns and, as I mentioned , the red warning light on the door panel is out.

What does fuse # 45 connect to ? You mention that it is in the relay box . Is it in the box on the firewall. There is alarge fuse in there , among the relays. Is that the one you refer to ?

Fuse #45 is in the large octagonal-shaped Fuse (& Relay) Box under the hood, in the left front corner - just to the left of the smaller Relay Box A that holds the horn relay.

Fuse #45 is for brake lights and horn. So, if your brake lights work, the fuse is good. The security control circuit accesses the GRN/WHT white before it even goes into the cable reel in the steering column. So, even with a bad cable reel, the security circuit should blow the horns as long as the horn relay works, fuse #45 is good and all wiring is in place.

The left horn goes to one ground; the right horn and security horn go to another ground, so both grounds would have to fail for no horns to blow. The fact that the headlights flash says at least some major grounds are good at higher current.

I'm getting this from page 40 of the '95 - '96 ETM. Let me know if I you need a copy of that page. (PM me if you are in a hurry, as I may not get back to Prime until late in the day.)

These pages might help.

Problem solved! It was the horn/brakelight fuse after all. Thanks so much, guys. All is working as it should now--time to take a spirited drive!!
