I purchased the amazing lexan engine cover from Downforce and Ive got nowhere to stash my roof right now.

I know it physically fits in the trunk, but what have people used to secure it in place back there?

Im thinking that some long velcro straps may just stick onto the trunk carpet and wrap around the roof to secure it. Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

A shoe box will take up the extra room between the top and wall of the trunk. I'd also wrap the top in a towel.

I'd also wrap the top in a towel.

That's very good advice. I'd be very careful about making sure the roof panel can't shift around while you're driving. I've seen several Boxsters and Miatas with nasty dents in their posteriors from where items in the trunk shifted and pushed out the body panels.

Hrant sells a Carbrella product that you place over the roof when you're parked to keep bird crap, etc out of your interior. It's not meant to help while driving but it might be a great solution if you're looking for a little protection from the elements when you go "topless".

I use foam pipe insulation.

Here's what I do. I set the rear of the top in first, painted side up, against the rear body panel. I then slide a 1 1/2' piece of 1" diameter pipe insulating foam over the front edge and let the top down into the trunk so it "pops" in place. I then slide it over to the left, close and go.

I've never had it move but you could out a 1' high block of foam that they use for pillows and drop it to the right if you're worried.
You could also put a small piece of the pipe insulation on the CD player handle, if you have one, just to be safe.

My top has never slid over though. Not a bit.

Warning! If you use a towell don't try to take out and handle the top with it still wrapped on. Good way to slip and drop the top.
