Seat and safety question for the track

I drive my car as often on the track as I do on the street nowadays and I would like to upgrade my stock seats to something more track friendly. I have a few questions:

1) What seats do you recommend that are effective for heavy track use but still comfortable enough for long stretches of highway? I'd prefer to stick with Sparco's if anyone has specific info.
2) I heard it's not safe to use 5 point harnesses if I don't have a cage due to the fact that the roof could collapse in a flip and the 5 point harness doesn't allow one to move their neck to avoid the roof. Is this correct? If so are there any roll bar options for the NSX (I don't want to put a full cage in the car as that would make it unstreetable). Any other safety ideas? I'm currently just using my stock seat and seatbelt and would like some additional safety.

Thanks

I never use my harness on the street, but I enjoy the secure feeling that I have when buckled into my harness while on the track. I have heard and read the same cautions about using the harness on the track, but I am still unconvinced.

Here is an NSX whose roof held up just fine in what was likely a lower speed roll than you would find on the track, but just the same, the roof looks pretty good IMO.

We have debated this topic in the past:wink: here is one of the threads which may touch on some of your concearns http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18729&highlight=5+point+harness+stock+seats

I read the thread. Sounds like a 6 point is the way to go for me. However, I'm still concerned by high speed rollover protection. I don't know if there is anything besides a full cage that will take away my concerns.

Does a 6 point harness hold you in firm enough with the stock seats or is it best to get the 6 point harness with a racing seat?

Personaly I'm well secured for track duty with the 5 point and stock seats:redface:

I have one of the Few Comptech roll bars. I still have stock seats but have 5 point harness.

I cut a slit in the seats for the sub. The shoulder harnesses slide under the head rest.
The stock seats work but some day I will get better seats.

The harness help allot on track. They will keep you from moving around.
Again a better seat with deeper side bolsters would be nice.

I don't use the harness unless I am on track.

Make sure you mount the harness correctly.
Have someone who tech race cars look at how you installed.

Later,
Don
