Hi,

I didn't want to jack into Cody's lift thread so

What do you guys think of this scissor lift?

The 6000lb one is only $2400..

Anyone have experience with a scissor lift? How you like it? etc?

Definitely going get a lift this spring after I clear some room in garage.

I like the 4 posts hoist but a 4 post hoist takes up the most room.

I have standard garage height so I could park a car underneath another car.

well that is usefull only if you work often on brakes, wheels and suspension, otherwise, that type of lift is useless. No place to work under the car for the engine, no place to park a car underneath, etc.

that is only good for a tire shop shop or something like a muffler shop that does brake and suspension.

I could not park a car underneath with a 4 post lift or a 2 post lift because I dont have sufficient height to do so.

Looking at the picture with BMW on the scissor lift. There looks like ample room to work underneath the engine and what not.

Have you seen in person or worked on a scissor lift like the one in the picture?

hmm well yeah you could probably work on the engine but you can't work on the transmission if it's a rwd car and probably not at all on the nsx. Remember that between the two "posts", there are cross bars which makes it almost like a full platform. Shop carefully, i have seen some cheaper

On the 4 post hoists. If you want the air jack, wouldn't those slide down along the racks as well. Esentially having 2 cross bars?

Looking at the pic you posted. That lift looks cheap like the cheap ones on ebay. The liftking one looks more strudy and the pistons looks like it position better for optimal room compared with the one in your link

Ideally I may go with a 2 post lift. I like the idea of a scissor because I can open the doors all the way and its take the least amount of space . I know the 4 post lift is the worst when it comes for space taken up..

well it all depends on the size of your garage, a 2 post lift would need a much higher garage than a 4 post, a 4 post will probably require a wider space though.

On the 4 post, you don't need to use the jack tray to work on the car, only time you need it, is when you want to remove a wheel.

the pic i showed, i took on the net, just showing you that need some sort of brace between the two platform on a scissor lift. also, make sure you car actually goes over the scissor lift, those nsx are really low.

Problem with the scissors lift is exactly as already described: very limited access to the underside of the car.

As I have a somewhat small 2 car garage (6/6 metres) that is only 2.90m high, a 4 or 2 post lift just takes up too much space (I wouldn't be able to park a 2nd car next to it anymore, nore under it.:frown:

I found the perfect solution: a 1 post lift:smile:

When lifting the NSX, I can clear about 1.2 m under it, making it possible to comfortly work under the car while sitting/rolling around under it on a wheeled stool.
As only the middle section of the car is blocked by the main lift beam, it is perfect for a mid/rear engined car, as that doesn't have anything important in that section.

On 220-240V (home voltage) it has a lifting capacity of 1700KG, and with a 380V motor (regular workshop power voltage here in Europe) it has a capacity of 2000KG, more than enough for a NSX or likewise.

Have used it for the NSX and my MR2 Turbo a lot already and it works perfectly.

The lift that RSEvo6 posted looks good, but expensive. I was thinking about getting a scissor lift before, but I needed the storage so I went the other route in the end.

I have pictures of one of the other NSXPrime members garage with a scissor lift in it, I'll have to look for it.

Here's the picture that first got me looking into scissor lifts...

Thanks for that pic Cody.

I must admit, I was searching last night on for scissor lifts and I have found many like the ones in the pic. They are $2400 and less. They look kind of weak to me and the and as good as the one for $3700.

This spring I am going to get the lift for $3700 or a 4 post hoist similar to yours.

The $3700 scissor has ramps and what looks to have more clearance room from the 'legs' than the ones I have found that is similar to the one in the pic

On a sidenote.

I saw a red NSX parked on Jasper and 104 ave today...I glanced at the license plate but I won't post it..

You have to let me know who is out and about in February in Edmonton. This is a Die Hard NSX driver! I, uh, Know mine is parked (Dan commented on the fact that it got garaged in October) But this is really good, that an NSX CAN and will be driven in inclement weather. I really need to get some winter pics!

From what I've heard there are several driving around in Saskatoon still, but those Saskatchewan people are crazy.

Check out Bendpaks website and let me know which lift suits you. I can get pricing for you guys and see if it makes sense. There are distributors that have lifts shipped there quite often.
Take care,
John

I was looking at their parking lift. A one-poster. That thing gives me the willies to look at it but I guess if it's anchored properly it wouldn't be an issue. I'm thinking this would be a good way to go because it appears it might take up less room than a four-poster. In fact when the lift is up, it uses up almost no floorspace. What does one of these cost?

John and guys, I checked out the website and found that baby.

The Canadian distributor is Babco out of Surrey B.c. @ 1-604-572-5666.
I talked to Jason and he has the price at 1760.00 cdn till the end of the week.
Then it goes up to 1950.00.
Yikes
He says shipping to Edmonton would be an extra 35.00 which is a deal.
I'm kind of wanting one of these babies now.
Anyone have pics of an nsx on one or something like it.
It looks like a guy can work no problem on an engine and headers and what not behind the rear car lift points.
Of course working in the middle of the nsx would not happen, but there is not much there.

Looks like the build quality and materials are pretty light wieght to cost so much IMO. I'm not sure I would trust my car to this unit. But, I have no experience with lifts so my opinion is strictly based on what I see.

I must be missing something here ... how often do you guys work on your cars? If you are not using the lift for parking an extra car in your garage then it must be used strictly for maintenance/repair purposes. This will be my 4th summer with my car and have not yet needed to "lift" my car. $2000 can buy a lot of lift time at your local garage when needed.

Dan, start modding your car !!!!!!

but seriously, I have done a lot work to my vehicles that I am sick and tired of doing the simplest things on the ground...Oil changes !!!!!

Last year my neck was so sore for a week after doing my header and exhaust install...

If I use it once..it would be worth it...

But then again I buy tools that I never use.....

Dan he is right, he buys tools all day long that he doesn't need for will ever use.
I hear about it on msn all day long. blah blah blah blah blah, one ebay link after the other.
And he uses my Mastercard to buy this shit as well!!!
What are we going to do with an automatic tran oil changer or a 700.00 digital snap on torque wrench or a decarbonizing machine or a batter maintenance center featuring teflon rolling cart wheels,..... the list goes on and on. lol

Just wondering why you are stopping us from getting the goods when you know we are going to be the ones putting the headers on your car. lol
Or don't you trust a Chinese and a Ukrainiannanan!

Trev out.
