ScienceofSpeed NSX-R Engine Cover

With the discontinuation of the popular NSX-R engine cover, ScienceofSpeed set out to make a direct reproduction. The factory NSX-R cover was replicated down the smallest detail. The cover, with its internal strengthening frame was reproduced using a factory NSX-R cover. This allows the cover to be lightweight, yet rigid. The frame is made with a carbon fiber base, and is available with a black satin painted FRP or exposed carbon fiber shell.

The mounting hardware kit includes the factory NSX-R stay rod, matching hardware to the factory cover, as well as lightweight machined aluminum spacers and a fabricated support rod bracket that fastens to a factory mounting location. The cover is compatible with the factory rubber seal and hardware. Please select the correct mounting hardware kit for your car - coupe or targa.

Nice Chris, will this fit with a ctsc? Just ordered a bunch of stuff today so this will have to wait till the next order .

Mike

Yes, it will work with Comptech, CT-Engineering, and ScienceofSpeed supercharger systems (it will not work with an intercooler, you'd need to order the cover with out the mesh, which we can do). And thank you for your order sir.

Chris, I want to order but i've seen pretty much all R replica covers sag over time. Even the cheaper replicas delaminate (mesh screen to framing) after some exposure to heat. Have you guys tested this in the extreme AZ heat?

I assume you mean sag on the surround, not the mesh, when the cover is laying down over the engine bay? I think the difference is that this cover retains the factory NSX-R skeleton on the bottom. A two part mold was used to retain this support structure (the other replicas I have seen do not have this). The other difference is that this cover's frame structure is made from carbon fiber and is very strong. If you mean it flexes when you lift it, and support it by only one side, yes, even this one will flex some as it is composite. The part would be heavy if it had the same rigidity of the factory metal cover. And as far as the mesh goes, we are using the same adhesive we have used on covers that have been sold for several years which is made to withstand the engine bay temperatures. Hope this addresses your questions.

cheers,

Sorry about that. I should have been more specific. The mesh screen itself tends to sag down the middle over time. I assume this is from the daily heat cycles from the sun or engine bay temps. It's actually most apparent from the rear view mirror as you see the screen bow downwards. Some of the cheaper replicas i've seen over the years even delaminate from the adhesive used to affix the mesh onto the framing (FRP or CF).

I've been on the search for a proper replica for years since both replicas i've gone thru has either sagged or delaminated... so much so that I removed the mesh from my current unit and simply use the bare frame.

Added this to my SOS wish list.

Hi Chris, I just fired off an email to you like 2 minutes ago before seeing this thread. We need to figure out the balance of my deposit and all that. The mesh engine cover looks amazing. What is the exact weight?

Can the hard ware be purchase and used for a genuine oem version? I just managed to source one, but I think I need the prob rod hardware.

I talked to Chris on the phone the other day. Looks like I'll have the first production version. When it gets here I'll weigh it and review it for you guys.

Awesome, i will be getting one after my ctsc is installed this month.

Damn it SOS. Why do you have to do this to me? Pay now cry later...

Question, does the OEM installation package includes the rubber gasket that separates the hatch and the chassis?

Thanks,

Our production has been very slow on these, we apologize. The current rate has been only one unit per week and we have 7 open orders. We are trying to speed up this process, and will be contacting customers individually once we have specific delivery dates, likely by the end of today. Hopefully the customers that have them installed now will chime in - it's a great looking part!

Chris, hoping to have this by the 28th. Let me know if this is possible. Thanks!

Any news?

I'd like to place an order for one in carbon fiber WITHOUT the mesh. I basically want a carbon fiber "frame" so I can still see my engine and still have the cover provide a good seal. I'm not using a cover right now since I want to see the engine but I don't like how I lost the seal in between. SoS, can you confirm this cover will provide a good seal (just like the oem cover) and does it come with the rubber seal attached already? Also, what is lead time?

I just got the tracking number for my cover!! Thanks SOS!!
FYI the parcel weighs 19 lbs though so I'm hoping that the box and shipping material weighs 17 lbs to match the actual weight of the OEM engine cover. LOL When it gets here I'll weigh it and post the official weight.
