sagging side skirt

Welcome to the club! I've install some metal brackets that I bought from Home Depot to fix mine. I simply found a metal brace, cut it to the length of the ww sides, applied it inside the ww side skirt, drilled very very small holes into the side skirts, and then put very small screws through the holes in the side skirts that screw into the metal brace. The screws are not visable once the side skirts are mounted. This eliminates the large sagging area. But still, the sides don't fit like OEM. Also, I would remove the sides from the car, then adding support(brace/bracket) to the sides skirts.

Oh, and I think the sagging is cause because the ww sides are slightly too long and once installed, the sides are in a sense squeezed causing it to sag like it does. Just my theory. :p

Good luck,
- Z

Nicholas421,

does your drivers side sag the same? For some reason, only my passanger side had the sagging problem. I really wish WingsWest would address this issue. I personally love the sides, but the sagging is a huge set back. :( :)

Add me into the group with this same problem.. Any chance you could post some pics on how you fixed yours?
Any help that you could provide is appreciated.

The sagging is caused by heat. The poly-urithane material becomes really soft when exposed to heat and hardens as it cools. If your car is exposed to the sun for long periods of time, it will sag. The way to fix it is to warm it up with a heat gun, and hold it to the shape that you want for about 5 minutes while it cools. This is what my painter does. When he paints and bakes the WW skirts, they come out distorted. My painter heats the skirts up with a heat gun or by leaving it out in the sun and remolds the skirts by holding it in place while it cools. Of course, if your car is left out in the sun for long periods of time, the sagging will reappear.

I plan on re-installing my side skirts soon. I will post pictures before/during/and after. Everything you need it at Home Depot.

As Charley mention, it might be from the heat? In this case, I might remove them, lay them in the sun for a few hours, straighten them out, and then install a bracket to prevent furhter heat that may cause them to sag again. It should run you a few bucks($40?), but mostly time, more time, a few cuss words, and some elbow grease! When I did my drivers side with the bracket, a friend came in handy! Since they don't sell these at Home Depot, you have to depend on your social skills. ;) Ofcourse, maybe you can make a friend at Home Depot! :D

Hmmm, I wonder what WingsWest will say about us others with this problem. I think I'll send WW an email. It's worth a shot...

Thanks for the heads up....

Here is a link to what some of us Wings West owners came up with as a fix.

Hopefully my pictures show up as I coudn't get them to load at work but I think they are still there.

Anyway, I solved the sagging problem by molding the WW skirt to the OEM skirt. Originally I did this so the WW skirt would use the OEM mounting points and be removeable just like the OEM skirt, but the side effect is a very sturdy skirt that will not sag ever. THe other side effect is the weight. Basically you are adding the weight of the WW skirt and OEM skirt together. Anyone who races probably would want to do something esle, but other than that I really can't feel any weight penalty difference when I drive around.

very good explanation. :)

my gosh, man, that looks horrible! i think you should drive here immediately and trade cars with me! there's nothing like OEM side skirts, you know. and in case it ever did sag, it's black, so you'd never notice anyhow...:D

just one quick question, for those of you have sagging problem with WW side skirt, are you guys using the old one or the "improved" version?

The sagging body kits are one of the reasons I have never put one on my NSX's.
