Who here has a race suit with a 3.2/5 rating for tracking their car? At what point should someone invest in a good race suit? I was looking at them on saferacer.com over the weekend and put some thought into it. I heard it gets pretty hot with the suits on while driving.

I recently made the transition to a suit, and haven't been uncomfortable-enough to hang it back up.

I picked up a LICO suit on the cheap, and it works. I'm sure there are lighter-weight suits on offer. It definitely gets a little toasty this time of year, but honestly, I only notice this when I'm standing around getting into and out of the car. Once I'm driving (i.e. when it matters), it doesn't bother me any more than jeans and a long cotton shirt would.

If you can afford one, no one is going to tell you that it isn't a good idea. I've had to jump out of one too many burning cars to say otherwise

I'd been tracking for several years with Earnhardt Jr's fiery Corvette crash was all over the news. My wife, at that precise moment, told me to purchase a suit ASAP. It was prophetic as I now run a Radical SR3 at the track with suit, shoes, gloves, etc.

Call the good people at Simpson Racing (www.TeamSimpson.com) for a high quality, reasonably priced suit.

Feff

It would be the next logical step along with a extinguisher, but only if you've already bought harnesses and a HANS. Though for just DE events, none of those seem to be very popular choices other than the harnesses.

After a 30 minute session for me in 85 degree heat I'm soaked.

Does get warm however, safety cannot be compromised. Please make sure you get a head and neck restraint of some sort first (if you had to choose an order)...

To answer your main question, when should someone get one? Well it's about safety. How likely is your car to catch on fire... not likely... how glad would you be to be wearing one if your car was on fire? infinitely grateful...

As far as the hot with the suit while driving - just get a coolsuit... it really is worth the money.. i promise.

no one keep the AC on at the track?

Most groups don't allow windows up so ac is only making life more difficult for your engine and sapping some power.
