Has any one had a SafeLite windshield installed in their NSX?

My insurance company wants me to use them and they claim that their glass is Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) and that it's the right thickness etc. The glass is really cheap (like $260) so I'm suspicious of the quality.

I was getting gas the other day and the guy on the other side of the pumps was an auto glass installer. By chance I asked him how much it would be to replace my windshield. He said it would be in the range of $500 to $800.

Go with the factory glass.

The problem I have is that my insurance company wants me to go with the Safelite glass and won't approve the use of OEM glass. From I what can tell, Safelite did not previously offer their own NSX windshield and thus you were often able to get them to use the OEM glass. Now since they have their own glass, my insurance company (which has a contract with Safelite) will not approve the use of OEM glass due to the cost.

I was told the same thing last year by my insurance company (USAA) and went to Safelite for my windshield. Safelite at the time told me that they had their own glass for the NSX, but when it came time for them to do th einstall, the manager at Safelite called and told me that there were no "Safelite NSX windshield" available. Ultimately I got a new OEM windshield at no cost to me.

Don't worry, all they do all day long is install glass. Even if you brought the car to a stealership, the stealership would still contract out the work.

Safelite is good at fixing cracks also (or at least stopping the cracks from growing). I have USAA as well and they offered "free" glass repair for a small crack in my OEM windshield (highway rock chip).

Another Question

Since I work for a dealership, all of our glass is installed by the same individual regardless of car model or auto insurance carrier. What I'm curious about is the ACTUAL glass they are trying to get him use....Does it fit well? Does it distort? Does it have the proper tinting? Does it come with moldings and fasteners? Will it whistle, squeak, rattle or leak? Because once its in, you are not likely to get them to pony up to the OEM glass.
