RudeBoy's accident...

We should have a "Physics of the Race Track" talk for all NSX Club of Canada memebers, even if you're too much a pussy to head out to the race track with your car, there are some basics everyone should understand to control their car at high speeds in corners.

Best way to figure out what to do when you loose your car is to have bald rcompounds on when its raining and just above zero degrees.

Driving the car at any speed is just a series of linked recoveries in those conditions. Its wickedly nasty stuff!

All the training in the world isn't going to do squat when you lose control due to gravel on the road, which I believe was the case in this situation. It doesn't sound like there was any opportunity for recovery.

EDIT: And yes, I agree that everyone should at least take an introductory course and get on a skidpad to get a grasp on car control.

Hey guys, just was over @ the shop his car is @ Authority Motorsport/B.A.C. Autobody and looks like he never lost control looks like he was tapped on the rt rear corner, witnesses say @ the accident that there was a silver volvo riding his ass through the on ramp.

If I ever found that Volvo guy I cannot promise that he would walk away from our meeting. How can you almost kill a guy from driving like an idiot and then just drive away...

My brother actually witnessed the accident, and stayed long enough for the chopper to arrive. He was convinced at the time of the crash that the driver wouldn't survive. Thank God he did.

He didn't mention a Volvo driver, but I'll ask him.

Hey Gents, just wanted to chime in here and let everyone know I'm still here, wish I could say the same about the NSX. But she saved me, defineatly true love... she gave her life to save mine... LOL...

Wow...what are the odds of that? A family member of someone on NSX Prime watching another one get into an accident on the highway. Strange things happen...

Main thing is I survived  I was tapped from behind at the end of the on ramp getting on the hwy which caused me to head straight for the gravel shoulder lined with posts. Yes there was another car that fled the scene & yes it was a silver 850 style volvo, so many witnesses and no one got the plate number? I have mostly minor injuries, a few cuts & bruises, some severe whiplash, a nice goose egg on my head, sore cheek, a really sore left shoulder from the side impact and a nasty C4 nerve problem.

Now that I survived the fun part begins, dealing with recovery, the police, and insurance. I was charged with carless, which although I told the police I was hit they appear to be ignoring the evidence on my car & witnesses that saw the other car. So far which I'm finding out really sucks as insurace is way below what I can replace my car for. :frown: I'm gonna need some help on this one...

Hey could you let me know what if your brother saw what happened? If he saw the other car hit me? Can you PM me his info, I would really like to talk with him if possible?

Thanks,
Richie

We regularly argue with insurance cos about "replacement cost" "like for like" the best thing you can do is know they will react to evidence, so go to autotrader online and find same/simmlar cars avaiable for sale, they should give you a number around what you're seeing without a fight.

Red, I spent the better part of the week-end calling around, and looking at ads in the Autotrader. I put together a portfolio of cars for sale private & dealers (which are pretty slim I might add) for the insurance c/o to look at. They are way off the mark as I can't replace my car with what they are suggesting as a settlement, they told me that because my car is outside of the normal 29k average? I thought the average car was based on 25k a year? Mine was about 8k a year:frown:

They aren't even close to the 40k mark as most 91's are in the range of, which really sucks... but I'm going to hope that they evaluate what I have sent them and come to a better, reasonable amount so I can replace my car... mine was a Black on Black 91 with 140 000kms on it, no accidents, all major services were up to date, what can I say I babied it the whole time I've had it. I can defineatly say mine was very clean car inside out, compared to what I've been looking at in the Autotrader with lower kms. They seem to be offering me buy back on my car as salvage or unrepairable. So I might be able to recoupe some funds with selling rest of good parts, and hopefully try and buy a newer NSX if I can afford a newer one this time around that is?

hmm... that's odd about the insurance thing
my insurance company made me get a professional apprasal on the value of the car b4 they would insure it... and they wrote a letter to me stating that they cover the full apprased value of the car.... well i'm sure you can work something out with them or just go and hire a professional appraser to apprase the car since the appraser that did my car told me that is possible and is regularly done when the insurance company does not settle with a reasonable price. (Red gave me that appraser's # I think it's Road Show Approsal or something like that) ... anyways Good Luck with your claim and hope you recover soon. oh if u ever wanted to get another black nsx my 92 is forsale... since I'm currently working in HK and the car is stored at my parent's house.

I've had my car insured since 2001, they never asked for an apprasal to be done which kind of made me wonder? I wish I would have gotten one done now, but thats a life lesson learned, and to be carried to my replacement car. But things are looking way better now, the reviewed my information I put together and now they have come to a way better settlement... so I guess the hunt for a replacement NSX begins...

I sent you a PM on your car(s) for sale...

whatever you do, unless you are happy with the amount, DO NOT ACCEPT A CHEQUE. Once you do that there is no ability to go for an additional amount.

Just keep fighting and keep showing them what a replacement costs and they will eventually make it work. Dont worry about how long it make take, finding a good NSX will take longer.

For the first time EVER I can honestly say, "Dave is right, I agree with Dave"

You can still do the apprasal Now!!! Call that appraser up coz he told me an Apprasal can be done after the accident. Red can you give him the Appraser's # ? I don't have it with me here since i'm in HK

Fight like hell. They have to replace it, or pay you market value. They'll continue to low-ball you, and you should continue to reject their offers until they get you back into ownership of another clean 91 NSX.

IIRC, in Ontario you usually just have to find 3 cars in similar shape in the market to establish the fair market value. They will pay up in the end, don't worry too much. Just don't 'settle' unless you are truely happy.

Paying $125 to a lawyer (or calling in a favor with a lawyer friend) to write you a "smarten-up-or-we'll-see-you-in-court" letter might speed up the process if they are really starting to jerk you around.

Settlement on the actual value of the car is peanuts compared to the injury claims and long term disability payments the insurance companies are really scared of. It's not like your car value is really much more than any '04 and up SUV that they pay out claims on daily (no offence intended).

It'll never go to court. Big insurance co vs little guy who paid his premiums on time never ends well for them if it goes in front of a judge.

Thanks guys! I can't believe how overwhelmed I've been with everything. I wound up going back and fouth a few times, and finally we've come to a settlement they deemed 'fair' as market value. They also said that I have up to a year to dispute it if I'm unsatisfied with the settlement. Kinda surprised me to hear that.

So with this time to move forward and try to find a replacement car, this time I'm hoping to get a 97+
