My friend got a 96 accordEX. Car looks immaculate and drives super well.
First time sitting over night and in about 50 degree weather, starts fine, heads down the street, and car is not shifting at 40mph or 3rd gear, the car gerks rough, with a whining noise.

After after 3 more babied miles and the car will not go over 40mph it drives fine. COuld this be some type of sensor that needs to be heated up, hopefully not the tranny?

thanks

my car has a similiar problem. when its cold, around 2500-3500 rpms it bogs..i step on the gas and it just revs and almost stutters. after about 5 minutes and about 3 miles when its all warmed up, its great. Its been like that for years, im just used to it now, 117k miles. when it first started happening i took it in for a full tune up and it still does the same thing. I actually start the car in the morning and let it warm up for a few minutes before driving it and its okay.

A little widely unknown fact: Once Honda decided to start offering a V6 as an option they never redesigned the transmissions to handle the extra torque.

Honda has good-willed some years up to 100,000 miles. Reminds me of a hideous little incident that occurred in the Acura line. AKA Snap ring? You might have heard of this difficulty that should have been a recall!

Mike me the fluid. Be sure to ask him if he’s running Honda transmission fluid. It truly will make a world of difference.

my '98 Mazda 626 does the same thing. Its an auto (Ford transmision from what I heard & read). Its only happened twice so far...on really cold SoCal mornings. Car runs fine, but when driving for the first minute...I come to a stop and then try accelerate, rpms go up, but car doesn't go anywhere....almost like its in neutral.

So what I did is just change gears (put in reverse or down to "2") and back to "D" and it seems to work fine. I literally just changed the trans. oil because it did this, and it still does it, so.....but like others stated, once warmed up, smooth as butter. Engine never sputtered, though....

wow- this is my 2nd accord and I never know of how these trannies have this issue, I have read some other stuff about it too.

Kinda sucks when you experience it. I guess now my option is have it driven till it goes out, or take it in already for the rebuild.

It does run like a champ once warm, but dont want to get stranded....
