Hello, I've owned a 91 RHD AT JDM for a few months now and while it is stored outside I keep it covered basically all of the time with a custom coverking. I try to wash it every weekend with a touchless car wash.
My roof's clearcoat has been peeling for a little while now and I'm trying to determine how I can 'fix it' essentially. I've seen plenty of videos on youtube but i'm not sure what the best course of action would be for me.
Let me know what you guys think I should do! :)roof.jpg

You could wrap it black, but in that state, it's going to need a re-paint. My 92 was in the same state. That paint is really thin there and it looks like it's gone past the color coat as well.

Also watched those U-tube videos as i've got an old van doing this and pondering whether to wet sand and polish it which "might" work, i wouldn't consider this on an NSX. It's such a small area it shouldn't be that expensive. I have seen folks using a home roof coating on their beaters, but you wouldn't do that, right he-he?

I'm with Honcho just wrap it.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I'll check with local body shops and price it out. Otherwise one of my buddies wraps his own car so he can help me with that if I just decide to do that.

FWIW, I had my roof painted (body color). They were able to sand it, put down a layer of filler primer, block sand that layer and then lay the color down on top of a perfect surface. You don't get that with a wrap. OEM roof color is Berlina Black NH-547 (PPG 9836; DuPont F0219)

A wrap is just a temporary fix, they aren't really designed to last anything over 5 years in my opinion. That being said, if you are wrapping it yourself then it is pretty cheap, but if you have someone else do it, for the same price or a little bit more you can have it prepped and repainted.

Just my two cents. I have nothing against wraps, but just like PPF you will eventually get some sort of failure of the material or adhesive.

If the vehicle just sits in the garage most of it life that might be the exception but yeah.

Yeah the wrap will just be a temp thing. I plan on repainting (myself maybe) it later after I practice painting on my corolla first. Or I might just hire a good shop I don't know but I don't have the time or funds right now to do it and a 4x4 wrap section will be like $40 and it wont look like crap (hopefully).

Yeah if you are doing it yourself then the cost is negligible. I need to tackle the roof and pillars eventually as well, I may take a stab at it and see how it comes out. If you want my honest opinion, since the clear is already failing and you're not afraid to tackle it.. some sand paper, primer and paint will only be slightly more expensive if not the same cost as the wrap material. Slightly more labor but that's up to you anyway haha.

If it comes out bad it is what it is and send it off to a professional or you try again until you get it right!
