roll cage

There is no premade cage for the NSX. Comptech sells a bolt in roll bar, but I do not recommend that option. Anyone who creates cages for local racers can probably create something for you.

Dali Racing sells one, but you have to get the car to San Diego. DAL motorsports in Dallas, TX also has a nice reproducable setup, and Rob Morrison has a fabricator in Atlanta that did a very nice full body cage for his World Challenge car.

Expect to spend in the neighborhood of 4-5 grand for a truly useful cage.

Sounds like somebody's getting his car set up for NSXPO 2004, whose location will be only 75 miles from his home. :D Except that roll cages are not required for NSXPO...

NCDOGDOC hits it right.

Define what your use is for us and we could help with better answers.

From my experience I'd say that a full cage moves you over the edge for street use. Although we took great care in maintaining head clearance in my cage there are several other factors to consider.

began tracking my E36 and later E46 M3 with the Genesee Valley BMW Club here in Western NY,

After a few Close calls' combined with a large current/future car payment on the BMW, I decided to turn my 92 NSX into a full time track car.....work in progress

1) The roll cage comes into play because my wife will be tracking next season. She has already been out with instructors (trackmaster and BMW club) and is hooked. I am concerned with some of the things I have seen happen to cars/people on the track.

2) I have seen some bad crashes just in the few years that I have been going to the Glen, Lime Rocks and Poconos and would feel safer with some-sort of cage in the car.

the NSX is already set up with a 5 point harness with a Dali bar but this is not going to do much if I go into a turn 10's wall at the geln

3) Not looking for an SCCA reg rollcage

thanks again,
John B

I look forward to seeing you out there in 04.I second the info givn above.Your best bet may be to find a good local race shop and fabricator. And make sure they realize it needs to be bolted, not welded, they'd probably figure that one out though.

what premade roll cage are you writting about. I may be interested.

Juice,
I'm not sure what Hyper Rev is. Is it a magazine? If so, I don't have one. Can you please be more specific if you know of a rollcage? I'm interested in getting one installed.
Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan,

my partner, Tom has a cage by Dali, which I thought a very well made cage. Head clearance is an issue though. I have not seen Comptech cage, but I am a strong believe in their product, so I am comfortable in recommending their product as well.

The only problem with Dali cage is the rear bar going to the rear shock mount has a bend. SCCA and NASA do not allow any bend in this bar. I would discuss this if you are going to this route, so they can make the cage without bend on the rear bar. The downside with this cage is because there are bar going into the rear shock mount, you have to replace the rear glass with lexan and has cut out to accomodate the bar. This makes street driving with the car is loud, and buzzing. In reality, the car with a cage won't be a street car anymore.

The premade roll cage that maomaonsx had in this car is pretty good, and contained in the cabin so it should be fine for street use. I believe the one Comptech made is also this design.

I believe maomaonsx is selling his cage. Contact person will be fongster as maomaonsx is not in the country.

Guys,
I installed sparco racing seats along with a 5 point harness and I seem to have almost no Head clearance. I can not even imagine cramming a roll cage into the car.

Is there a trick with installation? Also keep in mind that I am a mighty 5'8'' (165lbs), thus for someone over 6', I would think that you would have to perform magic to fit them in.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Also with regards to a fab shop doing the work on a cage, I read somewhere that the NSX is real tricky because of it's aluminum frame and to proceed with caution.

Cheers,
John B

1) Sparco fighter seats and I wish I new the rails (purchased set up of a prime user) These rails really sit the seats high.

2) With my helmet on, it appears that I have about an inch to spare on top.

thanks

Great! Good for her, maybe I'll get to see her on the track one day  I love to see more girls getting involved! I was wanting to 'bring it' to NSXPO '04 at Watkins Glen. Unfortunately, Mark and I just found out that the clutch problem we were having during 'XPO went beyond the slave and master clutch cylinder.
