RM Racing exhaust install at LoveFab

Judi and I drove up to LoveFab and spent a Saturday under our '92, as Cody fabricated us a custom exhaust system.
First off, it was cool seeing so many NSX's being serviced in one place, and I have to say Cody & Jen were most gracious hosts for our day long adventure
Now, on to the nuts and bolts of the deal;
Cody provided some late (2002) headers to (our stock 28K mile) cats, with custom piping to a used stainless RM Racing muffler with the sweet quad 'DTM' tips.
Our goal was to have an sonorous deep exhaust note that was unobtrusive and drone-free at cruising speeds, some weight savings, a bit more power......and Cody assured us this combination would provide just that.
We managed to get all the 16 year old bolts undone without breaking anything (whew ;^), and after adding one 02 sensor extension wire got the new system packaged up in there nicely.
Oh, and if you would like to see some nice TIG welding, come stick your head under our car
The roughly 3.5 hour drive back home was just awesome, with the engine note sounding like a proper sports car should, but with no drone and a cockpit noise level inducive to normal conversation.

Just perfect, but Cody says this is the last time we're leaving his shop without BOOST!!!

Thanks man
Brian (& Judi)

I am glad you had a chance to experience the "LoveFab Treatment"!

Cody and Jen are great and LoveFab is a true asset to the NSX Community!!!

We couldn't agree more.
They have a very nice setup there in Buckley, but oh man would it be cool if we SE Michigan NSX'ers could somehow entice them to move LoveFab down here:biggrin:

I don't need any more temptation that I already have:biggrin:
I do hope to eventually do one of Cody's budget systems once this crazy economy settles down for me a bit.
Sounds like you got a cool setup. Hope to hear it soon, although it might not be till next summer with this weather!

Oh yeah, you will be tempted!
If just hanging around the shop for a day perusing his work wasn't enough, Cody grabbed a new turbo from his budget kit and had me hold it like a puppy (pure evil genius I tell 'ya ;-)
Let's hope there are more nice days ahead of us this season so we can get together for a drive!

Are you experiencing any issues with the exhaust coming into contact with the rear valance? That is the common problem with the R/M exhaust with DTM tip setup.

I can see how that might be a problem.
If you mount the muffler nice and high (like we did), if you then wanted to angle the tips up a lot the inboard ends of them would contact the valence.
We set the tips at a more moderate angle, bascially just to the point where they don't hit.....and I think they look great like that.

AND sound SO sweet! Like what you and Judi have done to that NSX (wheels/exhaust/02+ headers) to bestow it personality and attitude.

Looks good, hopefully it won't rub. Mine sure does, but it was installed by the previous owner so not much I can do about it now. I bought another valance so I can always revert back to stock or go with a different exhaust later on.

That is evil.
I am down for a drive! Its actually supposed to be decent weather this weekend if that would work for people. We should start a thread in the midwest section and see if we can get some interest going.

I actually rotated mine quite a bit in order to get the exits from the muffler lower so that the DTM tips wouldn't touch. I think I even had to bend the hangers to make it all fit. Somehow it even looked better after I added the Cantrell headers. Here's a recent sound clip .. unfortunately, the engine and air was kind of cold so got a lot of condensation.

We'll be at Waterford Hills on Saturday for the annual volunteer Fun Run (drivers work the event so we can play), then back again on Sunday since Neal's wife Cindy is running her first Open Track Day (with Judi as her instructor).
Maybe we should set up an NSX gathering for Sunday at Waterford Hills to cheer Cindy along

Ian- thanks for the sound clip (people have been bugging me for one!)
Ron- I hear 'ya man.....I am picking up what you're putting down

It was a pleasure to work with you guys Brian and Judi!

I've said it time and time again, I love to work with NSX owners because of the maturity, sincerity, and the general atmosphere associated with everyone that I've met. Can't wait to meet up again!

On that note, guess what I just got back on the road yesterday?

The 1995 with the Stage 1 kit  The car is running flawlessly and I'm pumped to have peace and quiet along with a radio in an NSX.

Saturday is my mothers birthday and I can't miss that, but maybe Sunday at Waterford as you've hinted? If the weather looks halfway promising, I would love to get out of the shop for a day and see all you crazy downstaters again. In other words, give rides and and first whiffs of the GoFastCrackPipe

Cody!

Hey, glad to hear you've got the transmission in the purple (ahem, Midnight Pearl) car.
The weather this weekend is looking great (mid-70's on Saturday and upper 70's on Sunday), so I'll take Blodi's advice and start a thread in the MIDWEST section about a meet at Waterford Hills (see track info in my signature) on Sunday. http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1072299#post1072299
I'm flagging the OTD, but we'll have time at lunch to hang out, and I'll be working at Station 7 which has direct paddock access so folks can hang with me there during the day as they like.

"GoFastCrackPipe" hehehe
