RM Muffler is vibrating inside- How to weld it?

My RM muffler developed a metalic vibrating noise, most likely due to a loose baffle plate inside. The noise goes awau when the bottom of the muffler shell is pushed in by hand. The muffler shop told me to find out where the baffle is then drill and tig weld it. I have the welder.

Does anyone know where the baffles are in the RM muffler? A schematic or photo would be great!

Or does anyone have a used RM muffler that is for sale?

Thanks in advance.

DanO,
I called B&B and they said they are not the same company as RM. In any case they told me I would have to either buy a new system for $1,100 or take the muffler off my car and ship it to them and wait a week for repairs.
I don't want to be without my daily driver NSX for a week, so I'm still looking for advice on repairing or replacing the muffler.

B&B is the manufacturer of the RM exhaust. On some of the NSX B&B exhausts (especially the earlier ones) there was a manufacturing or assembly problem that resulted in some of the packing wires coming loose. These loose wires are most likely the buzzing noise that you hear now. I had to send in my exhaust for repair work twice. Both times required removing the exhaust and paying for shipping to their facility and the subsequent loss of driving time (although I reinstalled my OEM exhaust the first time).

I know this doesn’t answer your specific question but the knowledge might be helpful.

Good luck,

DanO

DanO,
Thanks for the imput. I have another NSX in Vegas being worked on. The stock muffler will be removed. I guess I will have the stock muffler brought to Hawaii and then I can swap it out when I send the RM/BB muffler to BB.

Will the stock muffler bolt right into the space now occupied by the RM?

Steve

Yes, the OEM muffler should bolt right on. I failed to notice your location and hence, your eagerness to fix it right there. You might want to talk to B&B to see if they have any helpful hints as it might be cheaper to have the fix done locally rather than paying shipping. I’d also talk to B&B to make sure they’d cover shipping back.

Good luck,

DanO

Just an FYI,

When this happened to me the "fix" was a complete replacement, no charge from B&B:).

I have been thinking of going to the anytime exhaust. A decent offer for my RM would sway my decision. PM me if interested in making an offer.
