Anyone got any ideas for me to check why my reverse lights are not working. Everything else works okay. It cant be the bulbs, because both are not working. It must be a fuse or relay??

Let me know your thoughts or ideas what I should do 1st.

I would check the fuse and bulbs first. Maybe one of your bulb was already bad, and the second bulb just recently gone bad. Very unlikely both bulbs go bad at the same time.

The circuit is,

Relay #29 in the main relay box to Fuse #5 (10A) in the dash fuse box to the back up light switch on the transmission. The test for the switch is on 23-202 of the service manual.

Not sure if the car has had a clutch recently, or any trans work in the past, but the connector for the backup light switch on the trans is held on a small bracket. If it gets even slightly bent(and it easily can), I have seen this connector not fully snap into it's mating connector on the trans.

See if you can easily pull the connector off, if so, make sure it snaps into position properly. You can get to it by removing the air cleaner, then reaching just above the starter motor towards the rear of the car. It is a gray two pin connector IIRC.

This is all assuming you have investigated the bulbs and fuse as mentioned above.

Larry, we are experiencing no backup lights on our 98. Discovered when we were trying to tap into the line for activating rear view camera.

Fuse is good, bulbs are good so not we believe it to be the backup light switch. Im wondering if possibly this connector for back up light switch was bent when we removed the air box when oiling the K&N air filter.

If it was the switch which became bent, can it be bent back into position? Or is it more likely that it came loose and needs to be snapped back into place. Hopefully the switch does not need replacement as I doubt the dealership would stock this part

Thanks

You can try, but you will not be able to bend the plunger internally. I would connect the two wires at the connector, with the switch removed to see if the backup light work then. If so remove the switch from the trans, reconnect it electrically and push it to see if they light, if not get a new switch, they are available: 35600-PR8-003, About $42.

RockAuto sells replacement back up light switches if you need one.

Also just to clarify, originally the "bend" I was referring to was a bend in the bracket that holds the connector to the trans, not the plunger. It has a kind of finger that the gray connector is mounted to, and the bracket finger is a right angle to the rest of the bracket. If the bracket gets bend, that can keep the connector from being fully snapped in place with its mating connector. See below, the bracket is #19

We discovered that the backup light switch had become disconnected and was the cause of our non operating back up lights. Thanks.

On a separate note, when we removed the airbag, we discovered that there was an unconnected hose under the air box. Any idea what this is and where it connects? I am pointing to it with a a screwdriver. NSX Engine Hose.jpg

I assume that is a typo - airbox not airbag?

Check the fuel section of the shop manual. There is a little diagram on page 11-5 showing all the vacuum connections to the throttle body and to the control box .

You should be able to figure out where it goes from the vacuum diagram

The hose you are referring to is the breather hose for the trans, it typically mounts to a small bracket, then makes a loop and is normally open:)
