My nsx feels like its hitting the rev limiter at 7k when it red lines at 8k??? It only does it when its cold. Maybe the computer is set up to keep u from red lining it before its warmed up?? Is this normal ?? Does anyone else have this problem ??

Re: Rev Limiter????????

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING THE CAR TO THE REV LIMITER WHEN IT'S COLD??????

Yes, the engine will protect itself by limiting its revs to about 7100 when cold.

It needs to do this, because you don't seem to care!

Come on, give the guy a break. He is new here, and just bought his car. Now he knows the answer...

Jesus, I let mine warm up for a few minutes before I even pull it out of the garage, and until it comes up to normal operating temp, I never shift above 3200 rpms. So much for trying to respect your machine I guess..... :frown:

No he is new so we got to give him some credit. But yea do a search before posting iffy topics like this because people are quick to bring out the flames. Good luck with your new baby.

Yeah but who the hell hit's the rev limiter with ANY Vehicle when it's stone cold? I don't even do that to my riding mower. I think the name "One Wheel Rider ZX9" says alot.

   Yea one wheel rider zx9, I ride a lotta wheelies on my sportbikes!!!!!! Yes sir!!! Im tired of bikes so i bought an NSX friends now??

No worries bro. Just be careful on 'er. She might be your girlfriend, but she's someone elses little sister!

I'm supremely anal about this. Revs <3500 until water temp is 100% (on gauge), and then only after a few minutes later will I ever start to get on 'er. Reason being, the temp gauge is based on coolant temp and not oil temp which is what matters. Coolant heats up much more quickly than 5.2 qts of engine oil. Double clutch also until engine oil is at operating temp, to save your clutch/tranny.

Rule of thumb - if it's 50 degrees, don't push it for at least 10 mins of driving. The cold engine rev limiter is the factory's "absolute bare minimum threshold" and shouldn't ever be tested unless you're being chased by the po-po.

I'm not that bad. I start and and go. BUT, I always keep the rpms under 4k until it gets warm. Especially in the winter.

dont let the car sit there and warm up to operating temp.

Its acturally bad for your car. The cooler combustion temps builds up acidic conditions.

so just start the car. let it sit for 15 seconds till oil presure builds in the car than drive it conservatively till it warms up.

Also if the engine warms up and you start driving it like the complete car has warmed up your tranny is still cold and will not be so hot

So just build oil preasure and off you go. This is fact not fiction.

Am I understanding that you NEVER shift above 3200 rpms? Please tell me I'm taking this out of context!
