I never had any problems in my 92 NSX. The trip meter is simply a mechanical device and I bet there is some debrit or dust build up causing the metal springs to stick a bit. While I never had it happen in my my NSX like I mentioned, the mechanicals is the same as other early 90s Honda/Acuras that I have owned and have experienced the sticky trip meter on occation. In my case a simple cleaning and lubrication does the trick. I did have to take apart the cluster to do this though. I have taken apart an NSX cluster as well and it is the same basic design.
