Replacing worn Comptech clutch

I have a Comptech Powergrip 1 clutch that came with my car (94'). I was wondering what my replacement options were when it wears out?

Since the original package that was put in the car had a lightened flywheel, it doesn't seem reasonable that I should buy another new Powergrip 1 package (and get yet another flywheel). Is it possible for me to *just* replace the clutch part from Comptech?

If I choose to switch vendors, am I limited to only single plate solutions?

You can replace your clutch with whatever brand you want. Actually the OEM unit is a very good clutch, and will handle well above OEM horsepower. As far as the fly wheel, I do not think any of them are available without the fly for the 5 speed transmission, but ICBW. Check with Mark Johnson or Chris Wilson, they both can easily answer these questions and set you up with a good replacement. (Plus Mark sells OEM stuff cheap)

You can replace the disc from Comptech. The price on the PG1 is quite reasonable. Call Joe at Comptech, he has looked into it for me before. You may also want to look into replacing the throw out bearing. However, being that it is welded to the spring diaphram onthe clutch, you should inquire on what they recommend to do to replace this. Either unweld, replace bearing, and reweld, or replace the whole thing.

Bon chance.

Cheers,

You are not limited to a single plate clutch to replace your comptech clutch. 5 Speed NSX transmissions can run either the single or dual plate clutches. Only the 6 Speed transmissions need modifications to go from single to twin disc. However, since you like your clutch, we can rebuild the Comptech clutch for you at a reasonable price. If you are interested, feel free to contact us.
