What are the advantages and disadvantages of putting Exhaust Straight Pipes on my car (performance, different exhaust note, gas mileage, etc.)? Which ones are suggested and will they work with my current exhaust (bolt pattern etc.)?

My 93’ only has the following mods RM Racing Exhaust and K&N FIPK.

Thanks

It doesn't increase performance. It makes the exhaust REALLY LOUD. It makes the exhaust smell bad. And it pollutes the environment.

and it can make it difficult to register your car, in some states.

A few upsides: it saves weight, sounds cool (louder), and facilitates supercharger a/f tuning.

I have been running Comptech's cat bypass pipes on my '94 for over a year now. The differences I noticed were as follows:

Exhaust note- more edgy with a distinct rasp to it...more raw sounding than before.

Performance- give up a little bottom end and gained more top end. The car feels like it runs more freely in the high revs. This is only seat of the pants, not dyno confirmed. Note that I have headers on my car so I'm not sure what your experience will be with stock exhaust manifolds.

Fumes- without the cats you notice more of a fuel smell when sitting at idle. Obviously this is not a "green" modification.

Installation- very simple and the bolt patterns lined up easily with the flanges from my headers and exhaust.

Mileage- no tangible difference.

I've been very happy with my Comptech bypass pipes and would buy them again if I had to do it all over.

Hope this helps.
