Repair quote at local shops

Trying to get an idea of how much would it cost to repair a 1991 car with a known snap ring issue? Or maybe it's worth upgrading the tranny to JDM gears? Just looking for estimates or approx costs. The car is located out of state.

He's very helpful but says he doesn't perform transmission work.
