Removing Gasket Sealer

What can I use to remove a small amount of Gasket Sealer from my valve covers, without doing damage to the finish?

I would try some brakeKleen.

I prefer using products like 3M scotch brite pads, then degrease.

If the gasket has dried the solvents above may not work. Try scraping the material off with a flat scraper designed for this purpose.
