I'm a first time buyer of a used nsx, I found a 91 that has a little over 5000 miles and it is in its original pristine condition. The owner is asking $45k for it. Is it a fair price? Should I get a later model with a little more miles at the same price range? What year and mileage would be best recommeded at a price range of $35-50K?

I agree with Maomaonsx. This is a little high. For 45K you can buy a much newer model with a few more miles. My take on this is these cars are VERY reliable and durable. I purchased a 1991 with 17K miles, I paid 38K. I am very happy with the car, it was as close to pristine as you get for a 9 year old car, stored in a heated garage, covered, not even dust in the engine bay. However, since owning it and learning more about the cars, I probably could have spend 4K less for one with 30K-40K miles and I would have gotten just as good a car.

I also agree that low-low milage is not necessarily a good thing. Cars in general need to be used. I will say that the NSX and most Japanese cars, IMO are much more tolerant to low miles usage then others.

I'm familiar with several instances of folks buying '91-92 NSX's with under 10K miles in the past year or two. All sold for right around $40-41K.

There are lots more examples of early cars in the 20-30K mile range for prices in the mid thirties. It's up to you whether it's worth it (IOW to you) to get an even lower mileage car, and to pay more money for less mileage. But $45K is way too high IMO.

I agree with you and disagree with you.

From a buyers point of view I'd be suspious of a 91 with 5,000 miles too. But as an owner of a 91 with 10,000 miles knowing how I've taken care of mine and how it drives and runs I'd want 45K too. I'd put mine up against any 00 model anyday. You won't find a scratch or a rock chip in mine. When you ride in it no rattles, no squeaks, and it still smells like it did the day I picked it up from the dealer. Just my opinion.

I say check out the car from top, to bottom. Run a carfax on it too.

Consider also, that you will be in a position of needing to replace some rubber items like belts, especially the timing belt, and hoses. These items age with time, not just mileage. Do you want to pay $45K and pay for a major service?

Bring him down a few bills. Once you start enjoying the car you'll forget the price!! DRIVE IT!! Pity the poor repressed soul who has kept it locked up for all these years. Let him have the stinking money...you'll have the fun.

45k sounds high to me also. My first nsx i bought was a 93 with 8000 miles on it and it was less than that and it was 3 yeras ago. you could probably find a 95t close to that price with a few more miles on it.Try to get the guy down dont rush one will come along.
good luck
