Anyone have a recommendation for wheel repair? I have some curb-rash on one wheel and another one is ever-so slightly bent. These are discontinued JDM alloy wheels that are very dear to me, lol! The rims should be easily repaired, IMHO.

I'm wondering what's the best option!

- find a local wheel repair shop...(?)
- pack & send wheel(s) out for repair to a regional wheel repair center...(?)
- arrange for a mobile wheel-repair visit...(?)

I used the 'search' here and came across these sites...

www.fixrim.com (Wheels America)

www.wheel-repairs.com

www.mobilewheelrepair.com

I've read good reviews about www.rimpro.com, though they aren't local/regional.

Any comments about www.discounttire.com, I recall they do wheel-repair as well (as they gouge a'plenty of rims w/ their services, lol!).

I'm curious to see what other guys in the area have done!

Thanks, in-advance (as always)!

I've got some damage to repair as well, should be a lot cheaper than replacing if they can fix it. What did you end up doing? Gotta love Texas roads...

back-burner'ed...

Funny this topic resurfaces, as I'm planning to have that set of wheels repaired/refinished within the next week or two!

I spoke to him a month or so ago. They collect the wheels locally & send them to their regional repair facility for repairs/refinishing (near Dallas, I believe). Turn-around is literally a handful of days (< 5 days). They'll dismount/dispose of your old tires & mount/balance new tires if you provide them at the time of giving your damaged/blemished rims (or remount the old tires), an additional ~$100 savings right there for 4/corners dismounting-mounting-balancing low-profile tires on alloy wheels. Compared to rest of the industry, they aren't the most expensive nor are they the cheapest. But, they seem to be reliable, convenient, and committed to their work. As aforementioned, they come highly recommended by many of the local premium/luxury dealerships. . .

If the wheels have minor curb-rash/scratches/gouges, it's plausible their mobile-repair service can do it on-site. However, my wheels have a crack or two & need to be completely refinished, so they stated that they'd send them to their regional repair facility which would then "make them look as-if brand new". . .

still seems to be the goto people...

Did you ever get this done? How did it turn out?
So funny (again) you inquire about this now, I was looking for this thread this afternoon to call 'em up & arrange for drop-off/pick-up of my wheels (and tires). I got busy w/ visiting family & other stuff last year, and just kept putting new rear tires on my current wheels.

Last I spoke w/ 'em, it was ~$125'ish per-wheel. This includes total restoration of the wheel meaning fixing any-&-all cracks/bends/gouges/rash & refinishing (paint/anodize/clear-coat/polish/whatever), as well as dismounting/disposing old tires & mounting/balancing new tires (that you supply).

My wheels in need of the overhaul are bent & have lots of curb-rash, needing complete restoration. Obviously less damaged wheels will likely require less action & cost less subsequently. There are two services: mobile where they come to you, fix there or take wheel w/ them to local center) or overhaul where they pick-up the wheel(s) or you drop them off & the wheel(s) are sent to the regional facility for complete restoration. Turn-around time is 4-5 business days, FWIRC.

I'll report back later, once I've touched base w/ 'em.

EDIT: just spoke to Mark, he is usually at a trailer behind or towards the back of the BMW dealership off McNeil, daily during 8am - 4pm. He'd have to see the wheels in-person to price the repair/refinish/restoration cost. Complete overhaul he referenced ~$150'ish, but it would likely be less - again he needs to see them in-person. He also stated that multiple-cracks per-wheel would likely not be addressed by them due to safety reasons. I'm gonna load up the wheels/tires & venture over sometime tomorrow.

I've got a buddy that owns a wheel repair business up in Dallas and from what he tells me, Mobile Wheel Repair does around 100 wheels a day through their operation in Carrollton and they've been known to return polished rims with gray paint on them instead, and, in his words "basically just clean them up as quickly and cheaply as possible." I'm not sure if you'd want to send your discontinued JDM wheels through a machine like that...

If you'd like to talk to him, his information is below. He's a good friend of mine and he's good people. I don't stand to gain anything personally either, just helping out friends!

... and again -> :eek:

If I'm gonna spend ~$500+, they better be straight & look as-good or better & be eggactly the same color/finish (literal identical finish/color-match) as when Yokohama/Mackin sent 'em to me!

How about powder coating?

The buddy of mine that I mentioned ^^^ can do that as well. I just had him paint a set of Dodge Ram rims for me and then satin powder them. Can't wait to pick them up...
