1996,NSX-T, 100K miles.

Have a noticeable free play in my steering - wheel can turn ~0.5 inch with little to no impact on the car's direction.

Still need to go through the normal troubleshooting of checking each component (tie rods, rack itself, knuckle) but with a 100K on the car, i expect that it is not unheard of the the rack will need some love.

Having said that, EPS is working fine - no knocks or bumps or anything, just this pesky free play.

Any recs for a DIY steering rack rebuild? steering rack rebuild kits?
I know there are specialty shops for EPS rebuild, but it sounds like my issue is plain wear, not an EPS one.

In terms of DIY, there are the urethane mounting bushings sold by SOS and there is the anti knock bushing which is only for the manual rack. I think any mechanical issues on the EPS rack are ' pack it up and send it off to the specialist' and be glad that there is a specialist who will do the work.

Yep, you can send it to Charles Brown at NSX Steering Rack Repair and he will go through the entire rack inclusive of the power steering sensors. tell him Hi from me.

Charles Brown rebuilt my EPS rack and now it is very tight and responsive, better than I can remember it ever being. Side note, the electric motor brushes on my rack have gotten noisy and unfortunately replacement of those is something even Charles can't offer yet, but he does inspect and clean them.

Regarding DIY, even with someone else rebuilding the rack, there's plenty for you to DIY: uninstalling and reinstalling the rack by oneself is no small challenge.
