Hello,
I called the dealership and they want to charge me 2 hours ($95) and parts ($174 for two)to replace the shock absorber (Is that what you call it?) so that the rear window will stay up? I've never had talent for car mechenical work? Is this easy to do? Should I pay $190 for labor? Any advice from the wise NSXer out there would be much appreciated.

Try strutwise.com for a rebuild of the ones you have

I'm just about to replace the gas struts on my rear window and the trunk. Having read through the various postings on here, there is a website of a Canadian company that can rebuild your struts called strutwise.com that is recommended.
I just emailed them this morning to check the cost of their rebuild and I am waiting to hear back.
As far as labor goes, it looks like all you need is a wrench and a set of pliers for removing the spring clip which should take all of 5 minutes per strut!

Any suggestions on how to keep the window to stay while changing the struts? Great info and keep me posted on the cost of having it rebuild. Hopefully a trade of would be available. This will cut down the time required to get your hands on the parts. Mail in the bad ones once you get the good ones.

This was recently discussed HERE
If you should decide to order new ones DALI is the best place to get them.

The install is SUPER easy.

2 hours for labor?! ahahhahahaha. Tell them if it takes them 2 hours to swap out the struts that they have some serious issues. Do it yourself, it will take about 15mins...30 if you've never touched a wrench before.
BTW- struts from dali racing are about $100..just sure you get them with balls.

we chill kool, welcome to the machine.

I also have a problem with my driver side window going up slow and not working at all at the passenger side. From all the info I gather here, the dealership is going to charge me an arm and a leg for this one.

I appreaciate all the help I'm getting here. Thanks!!

Try putting the windows down and shooting some silicone grease down the channels (far front and back of window). Just did this on my '92 - it helped alot. If you want to be sure the channels are well lubed you may want to take the door panel off and grease it that way. Slow moving windows put extra stress on the regulator. I've been told it will eventually fail (an expensive part) though I haven't seen that happen often to members on here on Prime. The most common problem on these older cars windows (i think 91-94's) was the popping noise when the window is used which will eventually lead to the demise of your regulator. That can be fixed with the fix-it thingies and installed LIKE THIS
Hope this helps
Michael

I recently had a similar problem. You'll need to follow the evaluation process shown in the shop manual. I ended up buying a new motor/regulator, a relay, and adjusting the window position. A lot of work but it can be done as a DIY and save the $$$$$ for other things.

Re: Prices for rebuild by strutwise

I spoke to Frank at Strutwise yesterday and he advised that the current price for rebuilding all four (trunk lid and engine cover) struts is about US $160.

I'll be shipping mine off to him when I get back to the US next week.

 4 shiny oem BRAND NEW ones from Dali wouldn't be much more than that - after shipping the margin is smaller yet!
