rear view mirror rattling

Gentlemen,

It would seem my rear view mirror has developed a rattle that really annoys on certain roads. I am almost certain that this rattle is more specifically located at the bezel or fascia of the mirror. If I place my hand gently over this bezel (plastic piece that goes around the outer edge of the mirror in front), the noise stops.

Is there some way to remove this and put it back on/inspect it?

Has anyone else had this happen?

I do not want to try to pull this thing off if it is not meant to come off. :D

Thanks a lot guys.

Is it me or is the quality of the NSX Rear view mirror very poor?

My original one went cloudy. I had it replaced under warranty. This one seems to have a really cheap body. The plastics seem to move around when I adjust the mirror. What's up with this?

My rear-view mirror is the original but I do notice there is much more vibration (resulting in a jittery view of the road behind me) than I've had in other Honda products such as a 4th gen Prelude. It's not a big enough probleml for me to replace it but perhaps this is the same symptom which, once it worsens with time, will result in the same rattling you're hearing.

Got the same problem, and when I started to inspect the plastic surround, it kinda popped out parallel to the mirrors surface. I got it to pop uniformly along the bottom, and the rattle went away. You can't tell anything is wrong with the mirror like this, but I am not thrilled with my "fix." DaveP, I believe, in an old thread recommended some rubber material placed in the flip switch area? Try a search, as my memory is not up to par. I remember there being several threads on this particular irritation.

Tom,

Thank you for the reply. I did a search prior to posting this topic and I did not find anything on a fix. DaveP may have made his post before Lud moved the forum over to the new system. I think all of the old threads are gone. Or, perhaps I just did'nt find it. :D

So, can I pop the bezel off on the bottom of the mirror? Do I need a tool of some sort to wedge it off?

Thanks

Mine moved with just finger pressure. I kinda pulled down, and it moved. I contemplated trying to removed the entire surrounding piece, but got nervous, as I tear up about half of what I try to fix. :)

I may mess with it this weekend and see how far I can move the piece or if it will come off. Good luck, and let me know what happens with yours.

Anyone had any luck fixing this same problem?

Every time I try to pull on the facia, I start to get scared that it will brake and I quit trying to pull it off.

Thanks

I had this problem when I bought my car back in ’98 and I have since permanently fixed it…problem is, I can’t exactly remember how I did it! Hmmm…let me think… With the proper sized Phillips screwdriver, the rearview mirror can be removed from the car, which makes fixing the bezel lots easier. Be careful when removing the mirror, too much pressure on the screwdriver and it will pop the base off the windshield, which will require reattachment with rearview mirror adhesive (not that big of a deal). With the mirror off the car, try running a super-thin bead of clear silicone around the back of the bezel, where it comes in contact with the plastic of the review mirror. It doesn’t take much silicone to dampen the rattle.

You may want to have some rearview mirror adhesive on hand (available at any auto parts store or hardware store), just in case, before attempting to remove the mirror.

I posted about this awhile ago...To stop the vibe/noise, I placed a small piece of foam rubber behind the day/night switch...Just pull the lever forward, hold a small piece of foam insulation/rubber behind the lever and push it back to its original position..This worked for me. (You may want to secure the foam piece to the lever with a dab of silicone). Hope this helps.

I don't have any vibration issue, but the mirror went cloudy on me and it had already been replaced once. I am going to bring it back and have it replaced again before the warranty run out.
