My berlina black is due for a front end re-spray due to all the tiny little white rock chips etc...

So, I was thinking spend around $1000-1500 for paint refresh( bumper, hood, fenders ) or spend $1800-2000 for a vinyl wrap and do a whole new custom color.... And get the Grand Prix White I've been wanting lately!!!
Or maybe even a cool gun metal grey or a satin white.....all sorts of options with this stuff....and they beauty of it is that your not ruining the value of doing a paint color change...can go back to black anytime I want and protect the original paint at the same time....

I'm leaning towards doing a white wrap and finally getting that typeR look I've always wanted:cool:

Thoughts???

wrap it

then post lots of pics so I can see if I should wrap mine

I paid 1000 last year to get my front bumper resprayed. It's already all chipped up again. With a wrap you could just peel it off and have them put a new one on.

your gonna love the new look but........... after you take the wrap off your gonna need a whole FULL respray. your gonna notice that every single panel of the car has Razorblade marks where they cut the film originally, and actually cut into your OEM paint. and depending on how long you keep this wrap on your car, a few years maybe it gonna kill the finish if the razor blades don't.

I say NOPE..... pay the 1000-1200 for front bumper respray and save yourself 10-16K when you have to paint the whole car because we all know a 5K paint job isn't gonna cut it on an NSX it will look like a 5K paint job

those with wraps can blast me all they want but you cant deny facts.

Not really a fact bro. If you got to a quality/reputable place you won't have razor blade marks. My friend has wrapped his Aston & Wrangler a couple times. Not one razor blade mark. When I went to this one shop they peeled the wrap off of an A7, not 1 razor blade mark. When you're wrapping a car you cut into the seems of the panels of the car, so I don't see how anyone would/can cut into the paint. Not saying that its impossible but I don't see it happening at a reputable shop.
91 X DO IT!!!

maybe your buddy takes extra caution to do it right..... can you say what the next guy will do as some other shop?

inless you do it yourself you cant say there will be no razor marks. 3 cars I have peeled now have all had razor marks at various points on the paint, most the angled edges, lights were cuz into fixed lights, almost ALL rubber parts have cuts in the rubber near windows etc.

Nope I say respray the front bumper and go drive... save yourself the future headache and freshly raped wallet

Paint the front clip over. You'll be wasting your money wrapping it later down the road you gonna get tired of the wrap and end up respraying it anyways. So do it right and paint the front end.

The two shops I talked to assured me that type of thing won't happen... Both shops have been doing high end cars Lambos Ferrari etc for years and were 5star rated on Yelp...

Shawn..........my NSX has been wrapped and peeled 3 times in the last 7 months and it was just done in XPEL and not one cut line in the paint........most cars have pre-cut kits and therefore don't need 'cutting', and if they need to custom cut a panel then they over-cut off the car and wrap the edges.

I say paint, personally I hate my wrap, indeed it looks good 10 feet away, awesome in pictures, nice for a colour change... BUT like Shawn was saying... When you peel it off off its a different story. As well edges will slowly show ans honestly I don't feel committed to a wrap vs paint which is why next season my wrap is coming off and I'm going back to paint with a full respray back to sebring silver. With black base IMO would be a lot easier to get away with in painting it to white has you don't really need to do the engine bay and front inner hood area. You can blow and take apart all panels and paint it white you can leave the furthest inner door jam black still and all you really have to do is paint the doors white. Go paint.

Could you please post some pics of your wrap? Would like to see it...obviously nothing is as good as the real thing( paint) but if you want a color change without ruining the value and at a fraction of the price of paint job, a wrap is an awesome alternative ... I guess it depends on who seems to be wrapping these cars..some say they've never had issues and some seem to have had hack jobs....the one NSX I saw with a wrap looked incredible to me in person....

im not into wraps at all but the quality of wrap install depends on the shop you use. just do your homework very well on the shop if you go that route.

I'll try to get some pictures when I have my NSX out of the garage.

but below is the link of my Sponsor which did my wrap
http://www.restyleit.ca/satin-white-acura-nsx/

When it was freshly wrapped it looked amazing no doubt I had compliments everywhere I went and still to this day I still get compliments and some are even bothered by me going back to paint. I loved it when I first saw it completed. But over time the novelty wore off on me, the vinyl stained with tireshine and black soot from the back end little bits and parts of the car started to peel at the edges where it was seamed. now mind you its been through about 10,000KM worth of driving and one track day at Calabogie so it should show its wear and tear. But as a tuner and enthusist I dont feel as committed to the car as if it was painted.

Wrap to me was only a temporary solution in the first place as I was undecided to repaint my car to factory Sebring Silver or paint it Platinum White Pearl. It was currently painted Silverstone Silver but was a half ass job by the previous owner that had it painted which thankfully never had the door jams done which now gives me a choice of restoring the paint to factory spec OR doing a proper colour change and maybe see if it would look alright with doing a colour change and leaving the engine bay factory Sebring silver. which slowly after the years Sebring silver would be the most logical choice without reaching into complications or well spending deep into my pockets with painting the engine bay's and what not as well retaining the value of my NSX.

In your case since your base is black getting away in changing ANY colour would be okay since you can even paint the panels individually without painting the frame of the car itself and it would look okay. as well you can retain the vaule back to factory by simpily repainting everything back to black.

just my 2 pennies

Man, that looks sweeeet!!! Defiantly has me wanting to do it even more now:tongue:
Just want a change and would never paint an NSX a different color then original, unless it was a salvage title or something...it kills resale value...not that I ever want to sale, but you never know.....I'm on my third one now.

How much did they charge you?

Thanks!!!

I don't get the love affair with wrap or plastidip. They both look like shit to me. Even at a distance I think they both look like shit, but I only like deep gloss on a car. Satin and mat should be left for household walls, not a NSX. Just my opinion.

I would paint it, and then apply a clear bra on the front end so that you don't have to worry about rock chips in the future. I am not a fan of wraps on cars other than track cars.

Wrap cracks/chips after a while due to elements/heat etc. I would spray for the money unless your getting a super deal and it will be on for short term/2 years.

at least it looks good in photos :) lol

cant wait to go back to paint.

Just don't forget that when doing a Clear Bra you run into the exact same issue as when doing a Wrap.

It all depends on the quality of the installation. I've seen so many clear bra install nightmares that look absolutely horrible with razor cut marks all over the car.(even with installs using pre-cut clear bras!)

Have you had a wrap priced? I did it at two of the best rep shows in Jacksonville for my wife's Prius and it was more like 2500. I was kind of surprised. It's just a different kind of look is all. I like the idea of buying a cheaper NSX with good maintenance but poor paint and then just wrapping it and redoing every few years. And yes, I thought about the flaws in that argument! There're some interesting looks out there, that Grigio Telesto would be neat, or satin graphite. There's a GTR in Jax that has a dark brushed stainless wrap that is really nice. Not sure that would look good on an NSX though. So when you peel off, how much damage is typically seen assuming no knife marks? Anyone have experiences to share/FWIW

Don't take it to Joe Bob up the street because he is cheaper than the certified installer and you shouldn't have issues. I personally had a clear bra on one of my cars that was right at 10 years old, and the only problem with it was that it had turned a slightly darker color than the color of the paint after all that time. I haven't seen wraps last years and still look brand new yet. As far as deflecting rocks and other debris it was marvelous. Never pealed or chipped away like vinyl wrap. Most of the bad clear bra instances are due to a noncertified clear bra installation shop. If you take it to a place that is certified then you will see much better results. Also, the certified places usually have previous work they can show you of. Pay the price to have it done right the first time.
