Guys,

Just finishing redoing my tan interior to Onyx on my 02 GPW NSX and I have a question. All carpet and rear bulkhead panels including the trim panels have been done in OEM Black but my question is about the lower part of the door panels and the console tunnel which is still tan. Has onyone tried dyeing the leather panels black and if so what product did you use.

My seats are in the shop getting re-upholstered but I have these last 4 pesky panels to do and I want to do it properly.

Your help is much appreciated.

Cheers and thanks.

There is a thread out there that outlines which pieces are leather and which are plastic, however it's pretty clear that the door panels themselves and the console tunnel are all vinyl. Simply use a good vinyl paint. Vinyl black paint is usually super shiny. You may want to try a couple of brands and perhaps find one with a little less gloss. I did my headliner years ago. It's too shiny, but still looks better than it did in gray.

I should have mentioned that the door wrinkle strip is of course leather as is the armrest piece. Obviously you don't want to paint them.

Another option is to have your upholstery shop re-cover the door panels in black vinyl or leather. Or just buy some used black door panels in the marketplace.

Def do a practice run with a few different paint combos to find one that looks good. but those parts are def Vinyl not real leather,

then your gonna need the black trim for the both door lights, and the black trunk release button and trim.

if you need the black door lights and the trunk release button PM me I have a spare set mint.

Thanks Guys, Bought some interior paint and tested on the old tan panels and let dry for a couple of days. Looked pretty darn close.

Now just need to pull off the door panels and take out the seats to paint over and the whole interior will be black.

Thanks for the tips and the offer of the door lights housing and trunk release. Already ordered new ones and they have been shipped.

Cheers all and I will post pics once I am done.

Talk to Kane from umbrella auto design. He gave me very good prices when I was thinking about doing the same thing. My car has silver interior, sometimes I wish it was onyx.
