Re: Antenna mast replacing
Finally got around to replacing the mast this afternoon - took nearly 3 hours!
Firstly, the old mast was very difficult to remove from the housing, but eventually it came loose.
Secondly, the new mast didn't go in all the way - there was a 7-8cm long metal tube that was slightly too big to fit into the housing. I cut the metal tube off, leaving the rubber behind, which fitted perfectly.
Thirdly, the antenna was intermittently going up and down, but I could hear the motor whirring away. I Took the motor apart and discovered the 'cog' next the the motor had some sideways movement and wasn't always engaging. Couldn't work out why the spindle wasn't there, so used a nail with a similar length and diameter as a replacement.
Currently it's working fine, and if anything I'm getting better reception than I was previously!
Thanks to those who replied or e-mailed me with helpful suggestions.
Ian.
Oh and the mast and cable cost GBP 40.94 including tax!
