Rattle in my ceiling?

After completing my quarterly complete detail job, I noticed that I had a rattle when I drive at even moderate speeds radiating from the ceiling of my coupe. I can reproduce the rattle by tapping on the the vinyl ceiling just behind the overhead light. It doesn't sound like something is free floating under the vinyl but I suspect that the vinyl has pulled away from the roof and is vibrating against the roof or the the light. Has anyone had this problem? If so how did you remedy it? Your input would be much appreciated.

It might be your interior light that is loose...tighten her down and it should solve your problem!!

Assuming you have a coupe here...

From the driver's seat - put your right hand up on the roof - right on the "hump" center line towards the back of the roof. Push up and you will hear the fastener "click". This fastener wears out over time on nearly every coupe.

If you have a coupe - try it - you might be surprised to hear it click. It will come loose again over the next real rough pavement - but no big deal.

I've got the same rattle, it comes from near the dome light. If hold my hand up against the headliner to the right of the dome light it stops. Are you saying to push on the headliner in the center towards the rear of the car or up front where the rattle is coming from to hear it click in?

My rattle comes from the rear of the roof liner - not the front. I would push up against the liner across the entire roof and see if you feel any fasteners pop into place.

While your at it put a little Lexol on a towel and treat that baby.

Thanks for your replies. Matteni, you were absolutely correct. After, depressing on the liner the noise went away immediately, I now I can drive happy without that darn rattle. Almost decided to sell the car after that. Just kidding!

Glad I could help and thanks for reporting back what worked. This will help those future "searchers" as I have been helped so many times before.

happy hollidays...
