RAHAL NAMED A ‘LEGEND OF LAGUNA SECA'

When you consider his record as a driver and car owner, Bobby Rahal is certainly one of the most successful racers to ever compete at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Now he officially has a place alongside the other greats who have competed at the famed California circuit during the past 50 years.

The inaugural class was named Friday. Rahal will be honored during October's Monterey Sports Car Championships where his Rahal Letterman Racing Porsche will close out the American Le Mans Series season.

Rahal was a regular competitor in IMSA and Can-Am during the late 1970s and early 1980s, winning the track's 1979 Can-Am race. He also won four IndyCar races at Laguna and won two more times as a car owner. In 2003, the back straight between Turns 6 and 7 was renamed Rahal Straight in his honor.

"The rich history of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is one of our greatest assets," said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of the facility. "And that history was made by legendary competitors who have thrilled fans for 50 years, so it is only natural that we begin honoring them for their unique and invaluable contributions."
