I just got an NSX 3 months ago and the speed is addictive! I want to crank it up to 100mph or more occasionally, but I want to reduce my tickets. I don't have any tickets now. I want to cruise to Arizona or Las Vegas from Los Angeles from time to time, and I want to open it up on the highway so.... I want to invest in a radar detector. I have heard good things about the Valentine 1. Does anyone know what POP protection is?

Have any of you had experience with the Valentine 1?

Should I get a laser jammer too?

John

I like the valentine one even thou many test may say that it is not the best but the arrows are what I like best about the unit. When ever anyones radar goes off the first thing that comes to mind is "" Where is he ? "" the arrows help point me in the right direction everytime and thats why I choose this over other models.

If you want the best radar/laser detector, get a Valentine One.

If you want the best laser jammer, get the AL, LPP, or the soon to be released in the U.S. Laser Interceptor.

Hard to beat radar combined with GPS. Check this one out. http://www.escortradar.com/9500i.htm

There are big problems with the new Escort 9500i and the majority of people are returning them because of less range than the Valentine One and the 8500X50.

http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=22803

They are locking out signals from door openers and the 9500i is not alerting to cops that shoot radar in that area. Owners of the 9500i are also complaining that signals that they lock out are not staying locked out from the day before. They also say that their Sirius/XM radio is cutting out because of the 9500i and its GPS function.

I got the V1, haven't used it yet.. car's on jackstands, but after many donations to vairous PD's over the last 7 years, I thought it's about time

I use a V1 & is the best way to go today........That said, I still have/use one of the original Cincinnatti Microwave Escorts from the '80s and it still works pretty darn good! (no laser of course)

I have the escort X50 and use it in the NSX and my company vehicle. It has saved me a bunch of times in the company vehicle, almost every day.

POP is useless imo.

When the MPH radar is placed into POP mode, the radar emits a short burst of energy and quickly measures the vehicle's speed. The radar then goes immediately into standby and displays the obtained speed for a couple of seconds. The entire measurement happens so quickly that the no radar detector in 1999 could detect it with any accuracy.

However, it is recommended that any police officer using POP radar only use it to obtain an estimate of a vehicles speed, then switch to normal mode to obtain the exact speed. The reason for this is POP radar is not 100% accurate and therefore police should not be able to write you a ticket based solely on a POP radar reading. Because of this we believe POP radar is not something you should worry about and POP radar detection is not something you should look for in a radar detector. In fact, most radar detectors that detect POP radar have the POP radar detection turned off by default as it just increased the false alerts you can receive with any radar detector.
