Racing Headers

PD Cunningham has some really exotic headers made for him - much different than what is avaliable on the NSX aftermarket. The runners use various diameter tubes and have an overall layout not compatible with OEMN components. I spoke to PD's crew chief about them once. He offered to have a set made for me but they would have been around $5k+, required a custom made exhaust system, and would not be compatible with cats. If you want, im sure he could fabricate you a set.

Is there a significant increase of power in Pd's headers compared to the current available headers (comptech, rm, dc, etc.)?

Peter Cunningham has his headers made by Gemini, which is a factory Harley Racing Team. The design is optimized for the Vortech Supercharger that he runs. The design of a racing header would be dependent on whether you intend on running a supercharger, Turbo, or NA.

Well I want to run an N/A setup. I was asking about racing headers because the aftermarket headers available now don't seem to add much horsepower (I could be wrong) especially to 97+ cars.

Aftermarket headers have a greater effect on the earlier 3.0 liter NSXs because the earlier cars came with a more restrictive collector type manifold. The 97+ NSXs have a more free-flowing manifold design and therefore yields less power gains compared to stock form. An S2000 for example comes with an actual full header setup from the factory, most aftermarket headers for the S2000 yields little or no gains. Some designs actual hurt the powerband. Headers can be tuned to give more low end, a good mid-range, or great top end. For mostly street and some track use, a wide mid-range powerband would be the most desirable. It would depend on the purpose. On a side note, we should have some new racing derived header and exhaust options available soon in 6-8 weeks.

Most headers do claim 15-20hp increase to the wheels, and some NSX have actually seen this type of gain just from the headers. I know comptech claims it gives an 18hp at the wheels. This is only for the NA1 NSX ofcourse.
