i am a bit suprised about these cars. how many hp do they have in stock version ? i wz cruizin' at 65-70 on the hwy and this scion pulled up behind me and i guess.......he wanted a taste of my newly installed spugen exhaust !

downshifted to 3rd from 5th and we went at it. i was surprised that i didnt
leave him that bad. he kept up for a while until i started to pull away. maybe he had a turbo or supercharged installed . but still, it caught me by surprise.

it was a good race though...

You raced an entry level Toyota, and felt compelled to post about it?

I am all for the occasional spirted drive, assuming road conditions are optimal, but one of the prerequisites I have is that the other car be something worth losing to.

What would be the upside of losing to a Scion?

Scion

Performance
Acceleration
0-30 mph: 2.9 sec.
0-60 mph: 7.8 sec.
Quarter-Mile Time: 15.7 sec.
Quarter-Mile Speed: 88.2 mph

I hope it was sc, turbo or juice . But these road tests have some margin of error

When riding down the HWY, you will find that most people with refined cars, exotics, etc........Are not likely to see whats under your hood or even care. i see vettes all day and never ever see any spin a wheel like they could from light to light.... I get the dodge neons, subaru, dodge neon....magnums...etc all day wanting to see what I have. wow, that charger with the hemi was a battle for me. heheh but I do have an auto tranny...... Good thing you can drop the X auto tranny in 3rd gear going 100

thats another notch on your belt

with tuning so popular these days dont be fooled by the car badge. On a track i got my but handed to me by a ford focus. Dude let down the window and he had only 1 seat, no ac, radio, power steering, but under the hood a retro fit v6 mustang eng with a 150 shot of nitro......s

That's interesting. Well here are the specs of a 2005 scion (relevant ones) :

-
2,362 cc 2.4 liters in-line 4 front engine with 88.5 mm bore, 96 mm stroke, 9.6 compression ratio, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and four valves per cylinder 2AZ-FE
-
14.5 gallon main unleaded fuel tank
-
Power: 119 kW , 160 HP SAE @ 5,700 rpm; 163 ft lb , 221 Nm @ 4,000 rpm

2007:

Standard Engine
2.4L I4
Standard Transmission
5 Speed Manual
Cylinders
4
Horsepower @ RPM
161@6000
Torque @ RPM
162@4000 (foot-lbs)

From sport compact car:

"With our test monkey behind the wheel, the tC managed to eke out a 15.7-second quarter mile at 88.2 mph at the track, just as we originally predicted. Remember, the car also weighs close to 3,000 pounds. Thanks to a relatively generous torque curve, 0-to-30 mph was achieved in just under 3 seconds. At higher velocities the 2AZ-FE begins to pant a little, taking more than twice as long to go from 60 to 100 as it does to go from 0 to 60, which it manages in 7.8 seconds."

If I recall your sig, you have an older model (3.0) NSX with an exhaust only? Well, let's just hope he had more than a stock scion:redface:

I've heard that it's easy to go FI on that car. Good chance it had a turbo/SC.

Or your car sucks.

they do have an option for a supercharger.......but still.........

Oem Sc TC is rated @200+hp I think 205:confused: there are alot of turbo kits and aftermarket stuff that can make thes things go

Ther was a 1000hp Tc on the cover of Sport Compact Car

Spugen Exhaust... eh, he probably just wanted to show off his Motec System Exhaust.

I don't know, let's first get the other side of the story on the scionlife forums. From what you are saying it sounds like it was pretty close to me. What is an 08' TC rated... 161hp, ~3000lbs stock? Maybe another 40 with the TRD centrifugal, your power with the turbo...

All I can think of is to maybe stick to something more manageable like those xB's for awhile.....

yeah when i go to the drag strips the TC's driven by real drivers run's a 16.1-16.5 on average. If you put the optional TRD supercharger on them, it makes them as quick as a bone stock RSX type S which is still nothing to brag about. Your car should've left him like he was standing still esp in the higher speeds because in higher speeds, hp and aerodynamic drag has more to do with the out come than anything. Any weak car can run quick 0-30 mph times if its geared short enough but top end power is a totally different thing.

don't worry man, regardless of what everybody is saying, i know what you mean!

it somehow (sort of) keeps up with the (91) nsx up to 130; after that it's done.

i was surprised, to say the least. this is why i need 8psi in my car.

this is funny. he probably drives a 1991 automatic nsx. LOL. i have some chances to get rides with 97 civic ( with integra engine, 175HP), 1999 integra ( both GSR 175 HP and type R 195 HP friend swapped motor late), 2004 RSX TYPE S 200 HP, 2000 Auto tranny prelude 190 HP. any of them will kick Scion TC's ass. he caught u. that's a real surprise. S2000 will even smoke Scion TC for sure(i think). did u even rev over 6000. LOL. i am driving a 1997 nsx now. 3.2L manual. i have tried vtec power with 8000 RPM 2 days ago. really amazing. this is not possible that a I4 NA engine can compare with. even u race a lotus ( NA 1.8L engine ). NSX will beat it for sure. with 70 mile starting speed, u will kick TC's butt as much as u want.
by the way, if he uses aftermarket turbo,u should hear the turbo sound when he changes gear. supercharger will also make engine sounds obviously different.

i have had a ride in a different HONDA PRELUDE SH before .that car, OMFG. no side window, no interior except 2 seats. NO AC. u can only open the door outside. no muffler,no pipe, no cat converter. maybe there is the header. who knows. guess what. it was increditable fast in autocross. i was shocked when i go with him in 1st round. that car beats all STIs, EVOs, 350Zs, and vettes. i personally owned a honda prelude. when i was in that car,i was thinking that was it the same model that i drove every day before. LOL.
If u raced a TC like that,i wont be surprised. HAHA:biggrin:

dude, i guess you misunderstood me. my nsx is not auto, first of all and he never , never even caught up with me. i actually slowed down for him to catch up and started to race again. as soon as switch to 3rd gear, im pulling away. he just caught me by surprise cuz he took off first, like 1 car ahead before i even attempted to race him.

i will "not" get embarrassed with that car. there's no way and wont let him!
im just surprised how he took off while we were going the same speed which was 70mph....

i wasnt even sure if he had turbo or superchargeer since my window was all the way up.

I don't know what the revs are like in 5 spd gearing, but I agree with above that dropping to 2nd would have been the better move. Why are you racing 4 cyl FWD Toyotas anyway?

I used to build Toyotas in a shop called TOYOMOTO..Lance and I build a couple of scions that made 500+hp to the wheels on stock bottom ends..These cars can be very fast..BUT WILL NEVER BE AN NSX...Doug

hey hey, lay off the auto Tranny.......with I/H/E the automatic is right there with the 5 speed on a straight road drag strip. I have had the opps to go up against Charger Hemi in my automatic and began to pull away after 70 slow down , let them catch up and pass again....heheh it was a girl.....But we (automatic owners)get your point... I never road race but i do drive 10 mph over the speed limit, which attract people who want to race......

No it wasn't.

#1 It was on the street.
#2 You screwed up and were in the wrong gear.
#3 You came here to tell the world #1 and #2.

Don't show up everyday and you really start to see how Prime is changing.

This is what they call "changing demographics", apparently not for the better.

Speed contests on the public roads is just stupid and you make us all look like idiots. You and NSX_NICK are in good company.

Read about street racing here:

Sigh, another name on my Ignore List.

Drew

/The wife has been bugging me to get a FGT for the past year or so. Might be time to get into a new group of [lesser] idiots.

It doesn't matter if it was a SCION, Street Racing is a big no no...I think you should have ignored this person and let him wonder how fast the NSX really is.

I am constantly being challenged by Evos, WRXs, Preludes, etc. I just slow down and they lose interest. If you want to take these people on, do it at the drag stip or the track.

Downshifted from 3rd to 5th? You mean upshifted? You shifted up to 5th gear and took off and you don't understand why you didn't pull away from him quicker? Plus you're doing highway speeds and you're just chilling in 3rd gear?

For all you guys complaining about the changing demographics of Prime, I'm part of the younger generation of owners.... and I'd say this guy is more of the exception than the rule. I wouldn't sweat it.

Also... if you're going to have a little highway pull with someone, why would you waste your time on a Scion? You know what, sometimes it's cool to just look at them and smile and do nothing... at the end of the night you're going home in an NSX and he's going home in a Scion so who cares. Just leave him wondering.
