A NASA race car (Spoon Motorsports) ended up in the Infineon grandstands midway down the dragstrip late yesterday. These stands are north of and on line with the front straight. I didn’t see the crash but from eye witnesses, he had a very serious problem such as a stuck throttle, went straight off the track at the entrance to T-1, launched off the kerb, went up the hill, did a complete end over end flip and landed well into the grandstands. Rumor has it flying parts landed just a few feet from some people in the stands.:eek: There was nothing to keep people from being anywhere in those stands so sheer luck prevented an unspeakable tragedy. I heard the driver was relatively uninjured but they had to work on the car for a very long time to get him out.

I believe they’ve had tirewalls there before, so why they weren’t there now is a good question. I’m sure there will be video on YouTube very soon. Let me know if you find it. Andrie won the race and knows those guys, so maybe he'll share the story.
