Questions for Hawaii NSXers.

I'm curious about owning an NSX in Hawaii and have several questions for NSX owners on Oahu. I would very much like to buy a used NSX, but the car would be a daily driver and I have some concerns about that.

Have you guys had a lot of problems with scraping in parking structures? (Ward Centre, almost any structure in downtown or Waikiki, etc...)

Have any of you had a problem with people messing with your car when you park it at places like Ward, Pearlridge, Ala Moana, etc.?

I see in a previous post, a recommendation for Yama's Auto Care for service. Any others (besides Pfluger)?

How bad do the roads here beat up your car? I don't plan on ripping it down Kapiolani or anything, but you know what the pothole situation here is like.

Do any of autocross your car?

If your NSX is not your daily driver, why not?

Any answers you guys (or girls) can provide would be very much appreciated.

Mahalo!

Yes, I have experienced numerous structures and driveways in which frontal scraping occurs; despite trying the "sideways" entry/exit technique. Luckily, the front lip spoiler ('97+) is replaceable.

Thankfully, I have not.

Certain roads can "beat up" the car. As much as possible, I try to stay clear from such known areas which sometimes require taking a longer route. Unfortunately, one is not always able to know where road hazards will crop up.

I do not.

It is not, for most of the reasons stated above. Although as a recreational driver there are no guarantees the above won't occur.

zff, although my answers were as honest as possible, I may have portrayed the negative aspects. Please do not let this stop you if you really want an NSX.
For me, owning one has been an overall enjoyable experience.

Thanks for your honest responses. Don't worry about portraying the negative aspects. I understand that an NSX is not a typical car, and certain accomodations must be made for the pleasure of owning one. The NSX would not be my ONLY car, so I can tolerate some of its impracticality. It will, however, be a daily driver, so it can't be too impractical.

Your car is lowered, isn't it? (I assume that's your car in your avatar.)

If there are any other Hawaii owners out there, I'd love to get more responses. I'm also most curious about places where I could get an NSX serviced. I understand that NSX service isn't going to be cheap. I don't want to get ripped off, but I'm willing to pay a fair price for quality work.

I just picked up my nsx about 6 months ago. I didn't buy on oahu. I went to Calf. costa mesa . I did not buy it here cause it was to much or was hard to find a really nice one. I know kkt and drive my nsx and treated the same way he dose.

Yes all the time but my car is lowered 3".

Never had a "hater" mess with my car but alot of stupid people get too close. Such as leaning, walking in between cars and wacking the mirror.

I have to travel through the worst pothole road in the entire island everyday to get to work on Ahua street. As you know this is the road that floods everyday and is heavily traveled by large commercial vehicles. All I can say is take it slow and steer around them as much as possible without looking like a Drunk Driver.

I don't auto-x, it seems pointless to me but I do an event called "Super Lap" at HRP. Its part of drift session.

My NSX is everything to me. Its my race, formal, beach, and everyday car. Its a shame if you don't drive yours atleast everyday.

Same like the others.Even before my car was lowered I would scrape. Then, after I lowered my car and had my nice new 97+ front lip painted I ran it into a parking curb and that was the end of that :frown: Anyway, it is not that bad and although I was running around with 18/19" rims the roads are not too bad as long as you avoid the really bad areas.

I have never had anyone mess with my car ever (Hopefully it stays that way). Hawaii is a little odd. Most people don't give you a second look while driving around and only enthusiasts come up to you in a parking lot and give you the thumbs up. I never had anyone give me a bad comment or do anything to my car and I really have no problem parking it anywhere. I've parked in at the mall, street in certain places when I needed to and it never got one scratch.

I think pretty much all the Oahu owners have meet up with each other at one time or another and we pretty much have the same problems with scraping and whatnot.
