I am thinking about changing the hoses on my 91, there has been much discussion regarding the number of hoses that need to be changed a total of 22-23. My main concern is the coolant system hoses to start.
I know this may sound stupid but the 8-9 hoses listed for the oil cooler, does coolant run thru them in order to cool or does oil run thru them, obviously if it is oil the system is unrelated to the coolant system and can be changed later.

I believe they are all coolant hoses.

Those hoses are all for coolant. The 2 main oil cooler hoses are attached right to th oil cooler and are a bit of a chore to change.

Re: So the oil cooler is cooled with water not air??

Very interesting, I suppose oil lines would have to run to the front of the car to be cooled thru the traditional style oil cooler adding posible problems, capacity and weight. I ordered a shop manual which is not here yet so I have to ask where is the cooler located, my guess is around the filter somewhere?

8-9 hoses for the oil cooler thingy? It only has 2 for the manual and 4 for the auto. But these are hard to change. They carry water, the oil pressure would be much to high for hoses. While you're there replace the 8-shape o-ring for the oil lines which can be found if you take the cooler off.

If you look at the parts catalog, there is a slide called "Oil Cooler Hose". It includes all the small hoses used for the idle system, etc on the throttle body;).

You can see it here:

BTW, the part number for the "8" gasket is 91318-PY3-000.

Thanks, Larry.

Edresh, have a search here for 'coolant hoses' and you find a complete list of hoses, thermostat, o-rings etc. (I don't know where I posted my version of the list)
