Putnam Park video

Running Enkei RFP1s 17x8 17x9.5 with Toyo R888 235/40/17 & 275/40/17.

Car is running Comptech Pro suspension. Yes it rubs on full lock. Yes I had a little rubbing on the wheel well liner on BIG bumps on the drive up. I am lowered about 1-1/2" and am either going to raise it a tiny bit to get rid of that or try and find someone to transport my track wheels and drive on the stock 16/17.

I know the Toyos are track tires, but they are REALLY noisy for the drive up (2hr). Loud hum like a jeep with knobby tires. 1 day at the track ate about 1/2 the tread on the rears and 1/3 on the front. I think after I wear these out I am going to go back to Falken 615s or Dunlop Z1 Star Specs. At least those lasted more than two weekends at the track. I don't think the Toyos are worth the cost and wear in comparison to the good Extreame Summer tires.... especially for HPDEs.

I also ran Hawk's new DTC60s front and HP+ on the rear. I like the DTC60s much, much better than the HP+ I was running. With the ducting F & R, 2 piece Racing Brake slotted rotors and these pads, I had zero fade all day... none, nada... the harder I worked them the better they got. Oh, BTW even though they are a race pad, they never squealed on the drive up or back and even dusted about the same or less than the HP+.

Won't be at Mid Ohio this weekend, but will be there instructing Aug 8 (10/10th Motosports/Cincy SCCA and NASA 13-15 and 10/10th Motor Putnam 25th.

Let me know what you think about the wear on the DTC60. My HT-10 seem to wear pretty fast compared to the HP+, but I'd never go back at this point.

As for tire wear, don't forget that the Toyo's are meant to have life as a slick too. For comparison to the R888 from the RA-1, once most of the tread is gone and only the 4 circumferential rings are showing, I had about 4-5 track days before seeing cord. They actually wear better the smoother they get. I'd bet the R888 have a similar lifecycle. Dilligent rotation helps too. You might consider swapping LF and RF as Puntam is typically tough on LF. I swap front to rear too, but I'm not in an NSX on the track.

As a pleasant instructor once asked me at Putnam when I complained about tire wear: "Do you want to go fast or do you want to save your tires?"

I've been preaching and preaching, try the Nitto Nt01 next time, not only they are good. I could get great deals from my local Discount tire shop, maybe you could do.

wtf - finally made a video and the link is gone?
Post it back up or email it to me. I've been wanting to see one of your laps on video for a long time.

What was the time for your lap on the video?
