I'm not ragging on the OP for posting it or dis'ing anyone who thinks they're funny and I'm not bitter or trying to play some kind of imaginary race card.
But I do think the pictures are not funny and racist in nature, presented as they are without context or even a hint as to if they're "real" or not. It's just my opinion. No need to stress over it.
my opinion (we all get at least one, don't we?
* when the term "racist" is introduced, the person who says it shouldn't be surprised when others offer rebutting/defending comments.
* your implied suggestion of presenting a more balanced perspective by offering contextual comments is well taken. perhaps we'll see a broader range of photos as prom season progresses (cause it's sure entertaining).
slightly different angle on same thread:
over the years i've worked for a handful of small software companies, all of whom were founded by "hard-working folks" who bootstrapped their companies. 4 out of 5 of these companies were successful and profitable before either ipo'ing or being acquired - some before the dot com era, some during. (the 5th company remains very successful - but independent - too)
each of these hard working folks looked like regular, blue/white collar workers - so much so that when several of them went to buy their "nice" cars (when they figured they could afford something that was reliable and *showy* <not extravagant>) they were each ignored by the dealership sales staff... they just didn't look like silicon valley "success stories" (must have been the jeans and the plaid shirts or the sears two-pant suits) yet they were each worth anywhere from $70M - $900M.
so, when i see pics like this, i think "what the HELL are they thinking?"... and a stack of other things i might not say outloud. and when i catch myself doing this, i often think of my friends... and how appearances can be deceiving.
be well.
