Hi guys, here is a photo of my 1992 nsx rear wheel well. Recently I stripped all petroleum based under coating off of the cars underside and wheel wells. Weight savings was about 1.5 pounds per corner. The entire underside of the car was repainted, also I disassembeled all suspension components and had them blasted with baking soda to clean them. Before reassembely I replaced all ball joint boots with new ones, rebuilt my axles, and replaced the boots and joints on my steering rack. Also all bolts and hardware utilized on the underside and in the suspension were removed and soaked in degreaser before I individuall scrubbed them with a tooth brush before reassembely.
In this photo the car has Brembo indy calipers and Tein ra suspension. I have replaced the Teins with custom made Moton double adjustable dampers with external reservoirs. I will update photos as soon as I get the car up in the air again. The car will be white when completed, in the photo the Taitec quarter is unpainted

You should write an article about this - this is really interesting! I'd love to get something about this into NSX Driver.

Did you sell the Teins - let me know if you have them for sale.
 
Hello, I used regular auto paint to paint the underside. The Teins are already sold unfortunatley. I didn't consider removing the tow hooks as the car is still under construction and I use them to move the car around some times. Thanks for all the compliments it is really nice to see people appreciate something that you have put alot of work into.
 
Why do I need a parking brake? I never park on hills :) just joking, I haven't got around to buying the parking brake set from Comptech.
 
I will post more pics as soon as the car is complete. To strip the undercoat is VERY difficult, in the end I used gasoline as other solvents evaporated too quickly. I started out by disassembling and removing all suspension and crossmembers. Then I scraped off as much under coat as possible with a flat screw driver and a wire brush. You have to be careful to leave the factory catalyzed undercoating in tact and only remove the tar. Then I use gasoline as a solvent to disolve/soften remaining tar. You have to be very careful when doing this. Once all tar is removed I scrubbed with acetone, then I washed the surface with diluted simple green to remove all oil from the surface. Last I wiped the surface with grease and wax remover before spraying sealer and paint.
 
Hey Ed, I just visited your website-pretty cool. I really like the CE28's. one of my all time favorite wheels. I can tell your as crazy about nsx's as I am.
