Problems buying a new car.

The family is expanding and we decided on a new black on black 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring with Nav and DVD. On Dec. 6, we contacted the local rep. for Autoland in our credit union branch. He called us back later that day and he said a Honda dealer in Orange County has one. We agreed on the price and they said the car will be in our credit union in 2 days. We called 2 days later on Dec. 8 and they said we will not get the car that day. In fact, the car was not even in the dealer lot. They said the car is in transit and it will take 7-10 days to get to the dealer. We ask if they can track where the car is so we can find out the exact day it arrives. They say they have no way of doing that. I can't believe that they cannot track a car but UPS can track packages that cost $1! We wait and 10 days later still no car. We call and they said that the car was not in transit, it never left the Honda plant and the plant is now closed for the Holidays. We have to wait until the plant opens to find out when the car will go out. I called the dealer Jan 6 and he said that the car will come out of the plant on 25th or 27th of this month and we'll probably get it first week of Feb. What a frustrating experience! And it's not over yet. It went from, you'll get the car in 2 days to maybe early Feb. (2 months later). It would have been different if they told us we have to wait 2 months to get the car but telling us we'll get it in 2 days and not delivering just sucks. What incompetence. Does this happen a lot? I know there are car dealer guys here that can enlighten me. Thanks for letting me vent.

Do you have a deposit on this vehicle? If not I would say go somewhere else, don't reward someone with your business when they treat you like this. It doesn't sound like the vehicle you want would be that hard to locate, I would start looking elsewhere for the vehicle.

Good Luck!

Sounds a lot like this story, with the same deceptive sales practices for the same greedy reasons.

As recommended by others in that topic, I would recommend buying elsewhere, and then stopping back at the dealership to show them your new van (and making sure the management there knows why it lost the sale).

Perry...f**k those greenpeas. Contact Matt Piercy @ honda world in Westminster...his family own the dealership and he will treat you right.

You can tell him that Calvin suggested if you like

Carguy!,
Did not do a deposit. Looks like there's not many mini van buyers that want a black on black so Honda does not make many of them. The Autoland guy told me that Honda made 1 for Dec., none for Jan. and maybe 6 on Feb. Another dealer told me that after the 6, that's it for the year. Probably BS.

nsxtasy,
I'm starting to look at other dealers. I went to the Honda site but it does not have an Odyssey locator just like the Acura site with NSX locator, too may Odysseys to keep track. Is there a way to find out if a particular Honda dealer did sell a particular mini van on a particular month?

Pooh and Hrant,
I looked up your recommendations on the web and got their phone numbers.
I'll give them a call this weekend.

Thanks,
Perry

I don't think so for vehicles that have already been sold, but I'm pretty sure any dealership can look up current inventory at all dealerships...

Sorry for digging up an old post but it took this long to get the car. Big thanks to Calvin for the contact !
If anyone wants to buy a car and you're in the area,
Matt is your man !!
Been waiting for Autoland and another Honda dealership
for 3 months with no results. I talked to Matt Friday at 3 PM and drove the car home at 10 PM that same Friday.
For a mini van, that thing is cool.
Check in the General forum for my write up about my impressions, driving comparison between the NSX and the Odyssey.

Saw this post and thought I'd chime in. With the current demand for the fully loaded Odysseys (EX-L R&N and Touring R&N) the wait will be several months. I had a customer leave me a depsoit for one in early January and we still have yet to get a VIN number and *hoping* to get this van by late March. Took in three other deposits for like models with the same expected arrival times. Honda is pumping up production but at this point it's not trickling down to us yet.

The new Honda Ridgeline goes on sale today (March 1st). We may be facing the same situation as well.

If any of you have any questions about the ordering process for any Honda, please drop me a line. I'm at the Monterey (Seaside's Motor City), CA, Honda store.
