Well my sister came in town from Texas so she wanted a ride in my NSX for the first time. I take it on a long straight at night and no cars on the street. So I mash on the gas and when I get to about 7k RPM's the needle looks like it would be hitting a rev limiter or something..it wouldn't go past 7k for a short time. I got up to a stop sign and the car died, and after I start it, it dies again. It will stay running if I give it some gas though. I did a search and I was thinking that it could be the main relay for that part. But I still don't know what was up with the RPM tack acting weird. Anyone know what might be the prob?

Sounds like it could be the relay. But was the car warmed up all the way?

I warmed it up for a few, probably wasn't fully warmed up. Could that have been the prob also? It also has died before when the car was fully warmed up, but never the RPM tack thing. Hmm I'm not recieving emails for post replies.

I think if your semi handy with working on cars, you should be able to just locate the MAIN RELAY and open it up to see if there is a break in the connection. I read here that someone just fixed there's DIY instead of replacing it.
Best of Luck....

Thanks for the quick response NSX FoYoAss. ;) Can you tell me where I can locate the main relay? Thanks!

Your car was almost certainly just cold. Until it is warmed up the car will rev limit at 7K. My understanding is if the car is cold then the VTec will not be allowed to engage, and this limits the redline to 7K.

As a reference point my 96 can take 5-10 min to warm up.

I would agree with the car not being warmed up.

The main relay is a joke to replace. 10 minutes work for a mechanical moron (like myself). Its about $40 bucks.
